California Sober? This came up in discussion today at group…. Medical is legal here in OK and there are a couple of people in the group that use medical cannabis. Another gal just used a gummy at night to get her sleep schedule back to a somewhat normal. Thoughts?
Don't think its a Good Thing it still a Substance.
Your recovery is your recovery. It could be playing with fire and start you on a slippery slope or it might just be fine for you. However as far as following in the mostly proven steps towards recovery through NA or AA , any substances are a definite no
I used MJ to get off booze and then that became my addiction.. it was actually harder to get off MJ then booze.. I had horrible withdrawals.. but it did help getting rid of alcohol..
I believe you can be an addict to one thing and not another. I think what works for you to be at peace with yourself and healthy is your recovery.
Is the benefit gained worth a possible relapse? Not saying you will, but I know those who have. I won’t risk it, only to give my addiction what it really wants- to get high.
It’s not me personally it’s just the topic this week…. We had various opinions throughout the group…. I was just inquiring a little broader of a circle to hear opinions…. One person brought up antidepressants are also a substance…. Probably something that has peaked my interest the most since starting that’s why I wanted more points of view
Maybe get sober first and then reintegrate weed so that you aren't replacing on substance with another. For another me, alcohol was definitely the doc so I still use marijuana and psychedelics occasionally. However I don't use them to replace alcohol or to "feel better". I only use them to expand my consciousness and explore the the inner and outer realms of sentient existence. I use them to learn not to cope.
Legal medically where I live. I used to take benzos for sleeping but they became my DOC with booze…. So, no more sleep meds, I don’t want them. I’ve been sober over two years from an alcohol and benzo addiction. If MJ helps me sleep and wasn’t my DOC prior…. IDK, a slippery slope for some I’m very sure. But it’s worked well for me. I wouldn’t recommend it those who really enjoy it, I really just want to go to sleep.
It is still a substance but so is water. One thing wrong with recovery help is that its not personalized. Thats why its up to you to determine what is best for your well being. Personally, I don't smoke weed but I did back in the day. I never did anything like I did when drunk. I might get slack for this but kill the demon that is destroying your life not the 1 thing of many tgat might actually be helping.
Washington/Oregon/California.all legal.
Water is a substance, too, though.
When I was in rehab years ago when it was not legal in Oklahoma they told me not to get on the marijuana maintenance program. I take anti depressants for my depression but they do not alter my mind. Marijuana is a mind altering drug so it could cause some people to relapse. I myself would not do it because I do believe it’s a drug and it may cause me to relapse.
Its not about what's legal - Alcohol is legal. Air duster is legal. Caffeine is legal. FOOD is legal. Lots of mind and mood altering 'substances' are legal.
I just was at a meeting last night. The guy said that he had long term sobriety (alcohol) and things were going well. So he decided to start smoking herb. He managed that way for a little while, but before too long you guessed it…he was drinking more than ever. Just another data point.
Mind altering substances lower inhibition. Lowered inhibition leads to poor decisions. Because I am an addict I need to have my wits about me so that I can question a decision I’m about to make. My mind wants to make bad decisions. I must keep my wits about me.
Nope.
