Checking into rehab Wed and starting to feel nervous :/

I went shopping for some essentials today and started to pack when suddenly my nerves and sadness started to kick in. Is this normal? I’m still feeling optimistic over all but I’m scared of feeling “homesick” and missing my pup Benji more than anything  I have only been without him over night 2x in 4.5yrs and the thought of not going to bed with him and seeing him in the morning makes me so sad. I know it’s kind of pathetic but he really is my everything and we are so attached to eachother. I know he will be safe with my Dad and his wife but ugh I hope I’ll be okay! I am also nervous about what will come after my 30 days. I didn’t allow myself to think about it all this time but now the worry is kicking in. I’ve been at my Dads and his wife’s for 3weeks down here in FL after moving out of my apartment in NJ and suddenly the reality is hitting that I have “no home” and have no idea what “home” will look like in the coming months. I KNOW I CAN DO THIS but ugh this feeling stinks :/. Please share your experiences if you can relate.. Thankfully my Dad and his wife and Benji will visit at least once a week so hopefully that helps but ugh it’s going to be so hard without my baby boy ❤‍🩹:dog::pray:t3: (I know ppl have to leave their human children so me worrying about missing my dog may seem pathetic but I hope it’s understandable)

This experience will be the best gift you can give yourself. Positive things are coming your way♥️

Yeah it’s a lot. The more you let your thoughts wonder into the future, the more fear and anxiety will attack you. Now is a great time to try start to practice some important tools that will help you stay sane and sober. A few tools that should help us to take it one day at a time. Have faith that the universe has a plan for you, and that if you do the little day to day things, the rest will work out. If you believe in a higher power, now is a great time to begin to lean in and trust he/she/it. Repeat the serenity prayer several times a day. As for your puppy, I have one too. I understand. She will be fine. Trust in that as well. Time to get sober :peace_symbol:

Nice dog. You are starting the greatest adventure of your life, getting to know the real you.

It is absolutely normal and okay to have these feelings. Just keep in mind that 30 days is a very short span compared to the time you gain in sobriety! Feel all your feels and stay strong!

Try not to think about 30 days into the future. You have an opportunity to take time for yourself. I’m hopeful it will be a rewarding experience. Puppy will be ok, and he’s going to love the improved you when you see him again.

Enjoy this break from life with openness and forget the world. This is all about you. Get some tools and then plug into a program when complete. The world will still be here when released. A new everything is tough. We’ve all been where you are at. It’s doable. And a great life follows. Try connecting with a power that will help you on your new journey. Really proud you doing this young lady.

Be proud! You know you’re going!
I didn’t know I was going cuz I was so out of it!

Be proud.

30 days will do you a lot of good!

Be selfish with sobriety/recovery - the home thing and everything else you’ve got to figure out will still be there when you get out - take the 30 days and let it do what it’s supposed to don’t worry about everything else

:pray:t2: for you! Time for a new chapter!

My X took our daughter moved out of our apartment and back with her mom while I was in rehab. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I know I never would have stayed sober living with her, and it gave me the distance I needed to finally end the toxic codependent relation once and for all. I was looking at going back to live by myself in a place with plenty of bad memories and only half furnished (she took every piece of furniture that she liked). I decided to give sober living a chance, and was exactly what I needed. I met some great guys, and am still good friends with a few of them after 3 years. There were a few bad apples but they tend to come and go pretty quickly… I found that being in sober living gave me a sober social life and motivation in the beginning while I got my feet under me. I chose a sober house near my parents so on the weekends I had my daughter I could stay with her there. After about a year I was getting fed up with sharing a room, kitchen, bathroom etc. and then Covid hit. I decided I would stay with my parents until I had enough money saved up for a house down payment. That took about 6 months and now my daughter and I have our own place that we love. I have heard that there are sober living homes that except pets, so you should be able to find a place where your pup can stay with you. Florida has more sober living options than most places, so I’d definitely recommend checking it out. Fingers crossed for you!!! :crossed_fingers:

Everything you are feeling is normal, it’s a giant change, but one for the better. Remember it takes time, be kind to yourself. Benji will be there when you get out and he might be your best sober buddy. My dog is mine, I’m with her more than any person. Not sure if she’ll ever share the bed with some else, but no hurry there:roll_eyes::man_shrugging:t2:

You wouldn't be human if you didn't have some anxiety (and even dread) about entering a new rehabilitation center. Personally, I have been to 30 day, 6 month, and 12 month rehabs, all in different states. I was scared, disgusted, angry, depressed, fear of missing my friends & family, etc, always upon entering them. But it was never as bad as I had anticipated. I always made friends. My sense of hope returned.

I too had no place to call home, but if you stay sober, those things fall into place like puzzle pieces: shelter, a job, new relationships, climbing out of debt, etc.
And guess what: when you walk out of that rehab a sober, happy woman, Benji will be wagging his tail waiting for you :dog2::slightly_smiling_face:

I went to a sober living house after my 28 day residential treatment. The sober house I went to allowed dogs.

Trust your decision and trust the process.

I was so scared to go to rehab but knew in my heart I needed it. It was one of the best decisions I have made. I did 30 days in a FL rehab and got out last Weds. today I’m 37 days sober & so grateful for all that I’m learning & people I’ve met. You are brave & strong! You are doing a great, positive thing for yourself. It’s good you shared about it too. Hang in there, it’s going to get much better :purple_heart:

Been to 8 inpatient rehabs.. I lost count of out patient.:

My advice is when you are there.. surrender!! They say jump you say how hi.. there is a method to the madness..

And very important.. STAY THE HECK out of treatment drama from other clients.. those with the most drama are those that will not make it!

Good luck.. been clean over 4 months now.. longest stretch in my life!

Good luck today!
