To not be required to have alcohol in my system to function. To be around for my kids. To alleviate the threat of suicide that had started to be a consideration. To see what life has to offer.

My addiction took me down a dark path. Restraining order, separation, couldn’t see our son, and kicked out of our home. I was full of fear, resentments, and confusion. I knew I needed help. I asked for it months before but I asked the wrong person, my wife(ex-wife now). Today I’m a grateful recovered Alcoholic. I’m grateful for gift of desperation.
I went to treatment for my family but stayed for me.
The hardest part was admitting it was all my fault. I couldn’t see that I was alcoholic way back in my 20’s.
I’ve excepted my part. I’m working on who I am sober. My new employer, my best friend, God has been there this whole time keeping me safe.

I was killing myself with alcohol and going in and out of the ICU for alcohol withdrawal.

For myself ultimately. However for many reasons money, the "chase" of getting my DOC, doing my DOC; all that is a full time job in itself! I'm just tired of it all! Tried of the damage to my body every passing day. My kids, boyfriend. Like I said though, ultimately my choice of sobriety was for me. Happy Sobriety Everyone!! You can do this!

I got tiered of my own BS and surrendered.

As a new parent in my early 40s it is important for me to stay healthy as I’m in it for the long haul for my little ones!

I didn’t want to die before my mom. I started to have suicidal thoughts and my life was unmanageable. Now I’m back to caring about myself  .doesn’t hurt to make mom happy though. Haha

To deepen my already sensitive nature and actually be an empowered sensitive person, without the numbing of alcohol. :white_heart::peace_symbol:

Like Bob said, I'm tired of being "that guy". What I was doing wasn't working, blowing up my life, starting over. Feeling like a jackassss over things.

I'm with you. As a child of a drunk I was afraid to put my children through trauma. Trauma sucks- but my trauma from my dad hurts more than trauma from others. I never want my kids to fear me.

So I could feel better, think better and be a kinder more productive human being. It is working and the world is a great place when you can actually see it. Applause to me and all my fellow alcoholics for fighting the fight.

I was so tired of seeing that disappointment in my girl's eyes. Their Dad, my ex-husband was dying from early onset Alzheimers. They needed a parent that could hold them up, BE THERE for them, stay committed. Their Dad has since passed away. I am so glad I was clear headed, and there to support them through his death and the aftermath of it. I thank God for keeping me clean for my girls.

I don't feel like I had much of a choice. It was like, when I came to in the hospital, again, something clicked and I knew it was time to do something different. I suppose it was the first time I was truly open-minded and honest and my higher power opened a door and I finally stepped all the way through it and kept trudging forward.

Because I felt certain that if I continued to drink while on RX meds. That prohibits mixing alcohol and meds., that I would never survive another blackout. I have family that would mourn me and feel horribly sad that I died from alcohol use.

To be cool! Sober is so in lol.
Seriously. Went to rehab to keep my job. Still sober.

Thanks for sharing, Kevin. I know your kids are proud of you. I'm proud of you, too.
