CoDApendancy Recovery- what is your experience?

As one of the therapists in my program simply explained Codependency- “MY feelings about ME, come from YOU.” I’m curious to know how many people are knowledgeable of codependency & struggle with codependency?! If so, have you worked or are you working on it as part of your recovery?! I am taking it as seriously as AA and planning to work the steps for both!! I know I am doomed without addressing my Codependency!! I would love to connect with more people in recovery from Codependency and/or those interested in embarking on the Codependency Recovery journey!! I’ve been attending some meetings and it’s a game changer for me! There are virtual meetings too and gender specific meetings.. I look forward to hearing from everyone about their journey with Codependency so we can support one another!

I took a quiz in IOP the other day that I got a 53 out of 60 on….soooo basically I’m 88% codependent AKA “severely codependent” = BIG PROBLEM!! I will share the quiz next time I post

This is an awesome post! Thank you for sharing this!
I personally haven’t gone through the CoDA program, however, I have a friend who is working it currently and said it’s a complete game changer. I have another friend who also works two programs AA and ACA and has a sponsor who’s willing to work both programs with her. That’s something to think about…
Anyway, I’m stoked you’re working on getting help and are here posting your experience. Have a blessed evening.

Thank you Kevin!! That’s so encouraging to hear! I am attending ACA too through celebrate recovery. I know it may seem crazy to some that I’m attending a few different programs but I know myself and what I need to address & that happens to be A LOT of stuff :weary::woman_facepalming:t3:. Besides a few people, I have gotten great feedback on my approach bc I am H.O.W.- Honest, Openminded, and Willing :raised_hands:t2:. I also find myself to be in a fortunate situation where I can pretty much put all my focus into my recovery for now..single and not working BUT my buttt wiiilll be getting a PT job as soon as I’m good with my new recovery schedule being out of inpatient. I’m taking BABY STEPS bc I REFUSE to go back to the life I was living and I know that what may seem like a while right now is insignificant bc I’m currently making a LIFE INVESTMENT!

Andrea, you’re welcome!!
You are doing exactly what I did in early recovery. I did AA, NA, recovery dharma, life ring, IOP, therapy, and 30 day residential. I ended up focusing on AA step work. I’ll go to a refuge recovery meditation meeting once in awhile.
Stay plugged in. Absorb all you can. Find a higher power. Work the steps. Help others. Be of service.

One of the best days of my life was reading the last page of the book Codependent No More. Life changing. Agree, have to work on both addiction and coda. So glad to see you back and doing great! Blessings your way!
