The first couple days were rough and I was really shaky but after that it was a breeze.
Same, but get some real food in you and drink lots of water. You’ll pull through man. Just remember how terrible this feels, it’ll be the last time you need to endure.
Not a good idea. Can be very dangerous. Please get the proper help.
Man I commend you for taking the leap, I promise you as bad as you feel right now it gets easier. Hang in there you won't regret it this is the hardest thing you can ever get through I am rooting for you
Take it by the hour then by the day. I would try and muscle through as I have before. Also soon as you can exercise you should
Alcohol or drugs?
If alcohol you really should do medical detox. You can seizure or stroke if you do cold turkey from Alcohol.
Atavan got me through the first three days. Xanax got me through the next three and then it was just a matter of getting my legs back underneath you. Everyone's dependency level varies widely. Please don't delay in calling for help if you start getting out of sorts. Alcohol withdraw can kill you quicker than heroin withdraw, so do be safe about it. No shame getting help for medical detox if need be.
Cold turkey might not be the best way to go. If you tell your dr your going cold turkey they can give you Xanax or equivalent for a week so you don’t withdraw
Its extremely dangerous, especially if youve been heavily drinking/using for awhile. Even if youre not feeling absolutely terrible after a day or so, it can turn real bad at any second.
Quitting cold turkey can be very dangerous if not carefully monitored by medical professional. Your body undergoes radical changes which is not good for your internal organs. If you can’t do medical tapering is your other option. You may need some meds for you detox. I just left the hospital last Wednesday and I detoxed With phenobarbital, Zofran, potassium, and other critical vitamins. Your electrolytes need to be carefully monitored because that can cause your heart to stop if your potassium gets too high or too low.
I couldn’t bc I would have seizures if my BAC dropped below a .25. Had to get medical help to come down but thank God I did and don’t have to worry about that ever again. Be safe and just remember you never have to feel like this again.
If you have insurance I'd try to go to chemical dependency especially if you have some physical dependency because quitting cold turkey can be dangerous. They also, have some pills to reduce cravings. If you can't, make sure to hydrate, get some nutrients and get lots of sleep to help. Your brain and body will take some time to readjust so be patient and kind to yourself.
Chemically Alcohol is ETOH which is ethanol.
They are right it can be dangerous but if it's not for you lots of candy and meetings!!
As others have indicated, it very much depends on the drug(s), quantities, and duration of habit. It may not be safe, and that has to be the first consideration, without question.
When quitting per whatever strategy, sources of support are paramount. And whether or not that includes medical and/or other professional intervention and treatment, it HAS to include a structure for a) dealing with emotional and perhaps physical pain and b) STAYING sober!
Such a support structure could consist of any or all of the following: SOME kind of Higher Power (however you envision it and whatever you choose to call it), family, friends, therapy, rehab (the best option for getting clean in my experience), 12 Step and/or other Recovery meetings, a sponsor or mentor, and apps/groups like this.
I quit alcohol, opiates, and kratom cold turkey more times than I can count. But it took more than 20 years for me do it seriously and with the necessary support. Now I have nearly 3 years clean and sober.
For what it's worth, I think trying to taper on one's own is bullshit. At least, it never worked for me. If I had that kind of control and ability to manage my addiction, I would have been able to moderate my use from the beginning.
I wish you blessings of strength, determination, and support. It absolutely does get better.
Booze benzo black cold turkey almost killed me
Literally in the hospital for 6 months
Detox at a facility better safe than sorry
I went to detox for 7 days and then I went to a rehab for 28 days. With detox they give you medication to begin your body adjust. That helped me allot my withdrawal period wasn’t as difficult as it was when I tried doing it cold Turkey. That’s just what worked for me.
