Is it better to wing off or cold turkey. I’m trying cold turkey and I literally feel awful. Any suggestions?
What are you quitting?
Alcohol
I went cold turkey because the tapering off didn’t work for me. There was always an excuse for another day . The withdrawals suck but that is your body slowing getting back to a balanced state.
So far it’s going ok but I’m only having like 20 percent of what I used to
Yeah there was ever any tapering off for me. I might think I was gonna "just have a couple" but by the end of the first one I was pedal to the floor
Yeah I just need to stop being a puss and have a deal with it for a day or 2
Be careful if/when you do. Alcohol detox can be dangerous to say the least. You may want to check into an ER and tell them you need to detox. They can monitor you and help curb the cravings and pain. Good luck man
Ehh I’m not that bad off got some food and rest and I’m feeling pretty good
Hey Tony. I would be very careful. By chance do you have insurance? You can medically detox safely and comfortably
I had a seizure when I detoxed. It’s different for everyone. I’d say better safe than sorry (you can absolutely die from a seizure while detoxing), check in to the ER or any medical detox you can.
Hey man if you're symptoms of withdrawal start getting bad go to hospital. Withdraw can be deadly. But if you're symptoms don't get too bad it probably is better to go cold turkey. I know weaning myself off would not b a smart maneuver
They aren’t that bad just a little shaky and little headache that’s it
All depends what you are quitting and how much you were doing. Alcohol and benzo withdrawal can be dangerous and best done in supervised care. I tried to do an alcohol reduction plan before but I’m an alcoholic who has a tough time stopping once I start so it didn’t work. Opiates will make you feel terrible and often lead to relapse when quitting cold turkey. That’s all I’ve had experience with. I’ve gone cold turkey after short relapses when I haven’t had that much alcohol in my system.
Hey Tony - Big help for me: Naltrexone. Docs can prescribe it online and it was magic for cold turkey which was the way I went. Good luck to you!
Don’t be afraid to go to the ER and have them detox you. I had to, no shame in it. It saved my life.
So far day 2. Sleep was horrible but otherwise feeling pretty good and got appetite back
I quit cold turkey withdrawals lasted like 2 weeks today is day 69 for me
Insomnia lasted a while longer
I powered through cold turkey. Was it the best decision? Maybe not. I was well aware of what to look for or how I was feeling. I let people know that I was detoxing so if I called for help it was serious. Some people swear by medical detox, just like sobriety, your journey sobering up is your own to decide. Play it safe either way you choose. Best of luck!
