Coming up on 18 months sober no MAT. Currently had to end things with my sons mom out of necessity and to shield my son from her addiction and accompanying insanity. She is in treatment(this has happened countless times in six years). She has been there for 10 days and calls and leaves messages. I have gone no contact. My son greatly misses her. I have never taken this approach. I know I need to speak with her at some point due to sharing a child in common. How long is an adequate time frame to allow her to speak to her son. I’m afraid she could just leave treatment and use I don’t want my son to have to be let down again. Anyone with experience in this area dealing with this situation, you’re insight would be much appreciated
John, good morning. I can say that tough love is sometimes the best solution. I was in the same boat as your sons mom. I my addiction got the best of me and I was removed from my house. I had no contact with my ex-wife or son for weeks. A temporary Restraining order was served on me. However, it was that situation that got me into recovery. I’m forever grateful for what my ex wife had done. I still haven’t talked to her outside of attorney’s emails in almost two years. I went to treatment, get my act together and was able to see my son. Today I’m a grateful recovering alcoholic who is working a program of recovery.
I can’t say if this treatment is right fit your sons mom or not. Everyone has their own experience with addiction. I do believe your doing the right thing. I was able to see my after a month of sobriety. Then it was very limited after that for the next month. You may want to check into the family court system. This really helped shape my sobriety.
Remember addiction is powerful, baffling and cunning. This could be her bottom. Keep having compassion for her to recover but also keep protecting your son. This disease is real. But in the end it’s up to the addict if they truly want to change.
I wish you the best. Have a wonderful day filled with love and peace within my friend.
Thanks for you’re feedback. This is the last thing I wanted to have to do however, she left me no other options. She has gone to treatment countless times in the past 6 years. Creating more problems every time.
Welcome John
Keep your head up. Pray for her. My heart goes to out to you and your family.
