Crashed my car due to drinking

I crashed my vehicle due to drinking. I keep thinking I can just skate by in life, drinking, without anything happening to anyone, but myself.
I could have hurt someone, or killed someone, and could have done the same to myself.

I feel like drinking now just to escape the shame that I feel, but I need to find new ways to face the pain head on.
Any tips, help? Please…

Cindra, go to a meeting asap, call someone positive.Drinking won't change anything

I have 8 plus years you can message me

I have been there I crashed 2 cars the way I was living it's a miracle I didn't hurt anyone else. You can make it out the other side of it. Stay strong.

If you feel an urge, try box breathing, or just breathe deeply, for a minute. The craving should subside. You're doing great by being honest here! Take pride in taking that step!

I also wrecked a car drinking. In town to say the least. I was so embarrassed and beat myself up over it for a long time. Finally a friend reached out to me. I’ll never forget what he said. He said “ don’t beat yourself up too long. Tomorrow someone else will be in the paper and your news will be old news.” I have used that many times when I have done something embarrassing or shameful and it helped get me through.

I have 2 DUIs on my record. I absolutely destroyed two vehicles once. I lost my truck. I couldn’t drive for a year. I paid over $5,000 in fines and legal costs. Not to mention the insurance. None of that was enough for me to stop.

I never took the warning hard enough. You can’t drink, obviously. You wrecked your car! It’s time to sober up. Here to help, but you have to do it for you!

I can relate. The amount of guilt I have makes me want to drink. I am so extremely grateful no one was hurt or killed. It sickens me to know that I could of. I will never be under the influence and behind the wheel again that is for sure. But the shame and guilt and consequences of my actions at this age makes me drink. I want sobriety not just for a week or a month but for the rest of my life

The first thing that i had to come to grips with was there was NOTHING i could put inside my body that wasn't just a bandaid solution to the greater issue:

Facing life on lifes terms

Running from it, drowning in a bottle, excessive s.e.x., drugs - both prescription and street.. were all just bandaids...

If you have an AA Big Book- go to page 417.

Acceptance is the answer to ALL of my problems today.....

Once i truly embraced this concept, i realized i could control my reactions and perceptions.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!
