Cravings!

Hello, my name is Allison and I’m and addict, also I’m new to this platform. I’m a person in long term recovery, and for the last few days, I’ve been having craving to use for the last several days. Not just your normal cravings, but cravings that stop you in your tracks and watch every move you make so I don’t end up in a bad situation, sweating, cravings. I havent had cravings like this since real early in my recovery. It doesn’t matter what I do my thoughts keep circulating back to “getting messed up” I’m completely at a loss to why I’m feeling this way, and its been coming and going for 2 days now! I have no idea what to do next!

When I was in that same mindset not too long ago. I just kept saying the serenity prayer over and over. I also said f off out loud to those thoughts and replaced them with a new thought and kept myself busy as possible

When I felt like that in my first 6 months I had to get to a meeting and be around or Zoom call a meeting to be around other recovering alcoholics. It helps me center and during the shares, I get to release my feelings. I also love either having said the serenity prayer or the Lord’s prayer as a group and then saying Keep coming back it works if you work it sober!
Now when I feel too much in my head I journal and call my sponsor or another sober sister.

Well what you’re doing right now by reaching out is exactly what you should be doing. Good job!
I also struggle with not so much the craving to use but just a desire not to feel. I have a thinking problem. In a meeting yesterday this was discussed. My sponsor said if all else fails is to help another alcoholic or addict to help reconnect with our spiritual, higher power or what I call god or whatever you choose. I hope and pray that this will pass for you soon. Hang in there.

Kevin you make so much sense, that is me at times, I just don’t want to feel. You never know what you can learn from another alcoholic. I had no idea
