Day 1 is today

Hello all I am a hibitual drinker and party about 2 times a week and just get blacked out. Started going to church they recommended rehab I feel Like A.A. should be good enough. (Have not signed up) I also feel like God can help go sober with enough faith. Drank Yesterday trying to quit. Also trying to quit smoking cigarettes. All advice is much appreciated even if your new and just want to share your story..

Honestly ive done pills of some kind for 15years and i had tried NA and god a number of times i honestly think that if you really want to quit go to rehab a good rehab they have a lot of good cooping methods and alternatives i went to rehab and have finally been clean for 4 years but you have to have that good support system behind you also

Congratulations on 4 years. Seems so far away.

Idk what your faith is like, but you mentioned church. I did Celeberate Recovery and NA together until I was able to do the step study at Celebrate Recovery. The step work is where the healing is at. Drinking and drugging are just symptoms of the underlying issues. For me, it was codependency, anxiety, depression, family dysfunction, etc. I was masking all these things with smoking weed and drinking.

And great observation about the support system. Many of us have isolated and/or just don't have family or friends to support us. We sometimes have to make a conscious effort to create a support system. So, along with meetings, sometimes support groups in addition to meetings are game changers. All my best decisions led me to an abusive relationship and codependently enabling other people in my life with their addictions. So I also really originally started with a domestic violence support group, counseling and going to Naranon for family members of addicts. Those groups gave me the tools to graduate to NA and CR. I met lots of awesome people who helped me get help for myself essentially. Whatever the path. You do need support. Think about what you're willing to address and start there.

@alicia339062 thank you for your comment it means the world to me. It's time for a change I'm 39 and I've stopped for 30 days before but I've never been this serious for a change. The health benefits sick and tired of losing my wallet breaking my phones and stupidly texting my employer when I'm blacked out.
