Day 11. I tried having ONE glass of wine and stop and was successful. I didn’t enjoy it, I felt guilty and shamed. Do I throw the 11 days ( longest I’ve been sober in 19 years) away? And start counting from one?I was so proud of myself. I think I need more support like online meetings and meditation. I don’t know the sources for that if anyone can help out that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the reality check Alyssa
Hi Anastassia,
Honestly why stress about counting days? How did you feel being sober those 11 days? If that’s something you really want to do, join us in recovery and discover the wide world of living with a clear mind and freedom from the shackles of the bottle.
I’ve relapsed so many times just that way. One beer and I was successful. The next day one beer success. The next day two beers success. The next day three beers success. The next day…1.75L…fu(k.
We do a Loosid zoom call every Wednesday at 7:30 eastern. MJ hosts it.
I love AA. It’s helped me so much. Also, other groups like Loosid, life ring and recovery dharma have helped
Hi Anastassia, there are lots of programs that offer a variety of types of meetings: AA, The Luckiest Club, SMART Recovery, Recovery Dharma, Tempest, Women for Sobriety, and Celebrate Recovery are a few. If you’re interested in meditation I suggest checking out Recovery Dharma first.
Getting sober is not like flipping a light switch. No one is perfect. Only you can choose what is right for you. Why did drinking a glass make you feel ashamed? Because you really want to quit? Or do you want to moderate?
Most people are going to tell you that is a slippery slope. They are not wrong. Just be honest with yourself about what you want and give yourself a break.
No you don’t reset. This is the bad part about streaks. You’re doing great! If you don’t feel like you failed then you didn’t. You don’t wash away those 11 days by drinking a glass of wine. The problem is that you may be tempted to do it again since you set the precedence. Just be honest and forgiving with yourself. Well done with your reflection and realizing it wasn’t an enjoyable experience. Remember that and use it
This has been my experience with relapse. It’s a slippery slope, so I know I need to just abstain completely
i’m with you girl, i was technically sober from Dec 18th but on New years I had 4 shots and was very proud of myself because when i do consume alcohol i tend to at least take 15 shots and continue to drink the rest of the night. I was amazed that i was able to only do 4 shots. However i restarted my sobriety date because i had a slip up. It sucks because we want to be in control of our alcohol intake so badly and we try to but then we continue thinking we can do that and then it just leads back to where you started over consuming. It’s very hard but it is best to just stop overall and stop trying to just “only drink one glass” because even though that one glass was a huge accomplishment for you, it still brought you back to day 1. Stay sober girly we got this!
If you had 11 days sober and drank the next day. Your sobriety date absolutely changes. It’s very simple!
Everybody makes mistakes.
I find it very shameful when I make mistakes. The first thing most want to do is hide it like nothing happened.
But that is dishonesty.
Nobody can tell you what to do. You could try starting on Loosid and updating today or whatever day you were sober.
I have found if I attend a meeting even if I don't pick up a chip it will get easier once you get past the shock of failing.
I takes more strength to admit than I'd does to hide the truth.
Thank you
That is true but none knows, so there’s no point of hiding
If I quit smoking and had one cigarette, then I am starting over?
Thank you
I think as long as you are going strong and acknowledge your slip up but have all intentions to keep abstaining you shouldn’t beat yourself up too much
Thank you Ryan, that’s supporting
