Day 2 of sobriety. Worried I’ll slip up. I’ve not

Day 2 of sobriety. Worried I’ll slip up. I’ve not come close to rock bottom, but I want to stop digging.

Somehow the prospect of being sober means I can never have fun again.

I definitely have the bug, but I’m worried I don’t have the fire to kick it yet. I’m going to try one day at a time.

I didn’t hit bottom either, the bottom came up and hit me. Don’t try to white knuckle it on yourself own. Get to a program as soon as you can. AA, SMART,recovery darma, anything. I have more fun now than when I was drinking, and the best part is I remember it! I am not going to sugar coat it, the first few weeks and possibly months are no joke. It’s work for sure, but it is fully worth it in the end!

My sponsor tells me that the normal thing for an alcoholic is to drink, not drinking is the miracle. It’s one day at a time. I was far from hitting rock-bottom but I knew that if I kept digging it was going to happen. One thing I get to be happy about is I have less to be sorry for, less regrets, less mistakes because I didn’t do those things YET. if I were you, I would quit while you’re ahead. The best part about going to AA or another program and committing to it, is that you can see how it benefits you and if it doesn’t, you’re an adult you can always go back out and drink. That takes away a lot of the pressure because it can be scary. But I mean giving it the old college try is worth a shot right?

It is initially worrisome you'll never have fun again, I know I thought the same- most of my activities involved drinking or being around others who drank. The trick there is to plug in to friends who don't- a lot of fun is derived from whom you're having fun with as opposed to what you're doing. Finding a sober group or church or something with people who don't need to drink to have fun that you enjoy being around can help tremendously.

I remember thinking that the fun was over. Fairly quickly I realized that what my addict brain considered fun was anything but. I’m glad you’re not dead set on hitting bottom. Because that is no fun at all.

You’ve gone two days that’s pretty good. Keep going the beginning is the hardest part. I’m right there with ya

Last time I relapsed I was sick for three days. Lots of water, and try and eat. Believe in yourself. One day at a time.

Try a meeting.
