Day 324- Mental Health Matters

Today I am 324 days sober- this choice alone saved my life in MANY ways. Drinking was my way to self medicate for what I thought was depression and anxiety. Staying away from booze (along with other drugs that crept in on crazy nights) helped me confirm a mood disorder diagnosis, which in turn allowed me to get proper treatment. I was hopeless for 10+ years.. constantly suicidal and self harming while intoxicated. I never knew it was even possible to feel this fulfilled and happy. I hope everyone struggling with addiction finds their way through courage and self love to commit to sobriety. I am honored to be a part of this community

I have a very similar story and our sobriety dates are pretty close. I feel the same way you do - happy and free of the control booze had on me/no longer suicidal.

Keep up the great work

Thanks for sharing it gives me hope. I was just thinking last night that I don’t even think I liked drinking that much it’s just that I needed to to deal with my anxiety and depression. But I guess your right, I don’t need to- there are other ways to fix that sht!!

Heck yes Lauren!!! I felt the same way! I kept drinking because I was like "why not? I'll never be happy anyways," then come to realize it was the WHOLE reason I was unhappy! You got this!!! :muscle:t2:

Congratulations on 324 days! It always makes me so happy to hear other peoples stories and see their success. It reminds me that I’m not alone in the fight to stay healthy and happy. My issue is that I always get complacent and think I can handle drinking, and start drinking again haha. So, reading this and being humbled helps me so much! Keep at it! I don’t even know you, but I’m proud of you!

Michael!! Thank you so much! I love that this post was a reminder for you! Sometimes I catch myself saying "well if you went this long maybe you're not an alcoholic and maybe you can drink" but then a few seconds later I laugh imagining what my life was before sobriety! Stay strong! We got this :relaxed::heart:
