Day 91. Leaving treatment soon and gonna be living on

Day 91. Leaving treatment soon and gonna be living on my own after a divorce. New job, new town. I’m excited and nervous. Any tips?

Hi Jon, congratulations on making it 91 days. Here’s my 2 cents:
Do another 90 in 90.
New job/new town? Find some colleagues and or a good meeting/aa clubhouse closeby if you can. Where I used to work, we had beer growler Fridays every week before covid- it was rough. I hung out with nondrinkers/people I felt safe around and found new beverages of choice… like seltzer and kombucha. Recently divorced? Man, that FN sucks. Remember it’s ok to take time to be single and do things solo. You’ve been through a lot. Figure out what activities bring you joy and try to find others to join in. You need others in your life but you don’t need an SO or anyone other than your HP to feel worthy and loved. A therapist is ALWAYS a great idea, sobriety or not. Don’t underestimate the value of talking to someone just to get things off your chest, or journal. We alcoholics get in our head so much we need to air it out and get some perspective. Sometimes it takes a few tries to find a good therapist you jive with so don’t give up before 3 strikeouts. Say the serenity prayer every morning before you start your day or leave for work. “Keep coming back” “don’t give up before the miracle happens” “I can’t, we can”
Rely on your spiritual toolbox and keep adding to it. Keep coming back, it gets better. More will be revealed. Take it easy, just one day/hour/minute at a time. Remember to have self compassion along with criticism. Hope that helps! Sobriety really is a gift if you let it be.

Thank you Christan! As it stands, I’ve come to this town for treatment and through meetings, I’ve begun to build a foundation of friends in the AA community, which is why I’ve decided to stay here. I go to 5-6 meetings a week now and have service commitments at 3 of them. My willingness has brought me this far. I see a therapist now but I’m not sure if I’ll be staying with her after I graduate this program. I’ve joined the gym and lost 30 lbs. I’m excited for this fresh start and I want sobriety so bad. Thank you for your advice. Day by day I’m growing stronger mentally, physically and spiritually.
