Day four feels so disappointing. I did 76 days straight and then drank extremely minimally for about a year, but recently decided I needed to quit altogether. I ended up very slowly drinking more and more again (it’s almost like it progresses? Lol).
But I can’t bring myself to feel proud of four days when I’ve had longer stints, which makes me want to give up (I won’t, it just feels disheartening).
Hey Kate! I can understand you are frustrated with yourself, but the truth is the amount of days doesn’t truly matter. What matters the most is that you are sober today. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a little pissed I relapsed and had to start back at day 1 as well. However, w aren’t tarting over completely. We have learned a lot from our relapses which are so important to our new recovery! Maybe you needed to experience the starting slowly and the progression. Most everyone here has had to learn that lesson. I bet if you stick with it, you too will be grateful for this lesson

We all have a lot of day 1’s. You can do it. You can get back to day 76, and 10076. But like SoFlo up there pointed out, we can only do it 1 day at a time. Worry about tomorrow when it gets here.
Thank you, that’s true. I remember a couple years ago I couldn’t imagine what life would be like if I went a week sober and now it’s not easy, but it’s far from impossible! Thanks for the encouragement
Hopefully ive been at least carving new pathways in my brain or something lol
You can do this. The fact that you faced your discomfort and posted this means that you are really wanting this sobriety for yourself . I’m on day 4 as well . We can do this !
Thank you, I appreciate the encouragement
And yay for day 4!
Kate,
Past is the past, can’t change it, can’t rewind, can’t time travel and you definitely can’t fast forward. Live one day at a time, hit meetings and find a sponsor. Put in the work and before you know it that 76 days will be a small number. Don’t give up!!
Screwing up makes you humble and RELATABLE.
The amount of days doesn't matter, it's the fact that you continue to actively work towards it! Proud of you!
Dear Kate from 5 months ago,
Thank you for not giving up. Four days felt so small, but you kept at it. Proud of us.
Love,
Me
Love this!! Rock on Kate!!

This old post has weirdly shown up on the feed right under the one you just posted. Feels a little bit like time travel... so… hey “past Kate,” your future self is closing in on 5 months!

Oh WOW I just scrolled up and saw that you did the same thing - amazing lolol
Lol, I was going through old posts as a way to like, self encourage I guess? It seems silly, but it helped!
Dear past Kate,
This ‘day 4’, which felt like such a disappointingly tiny step, was actually a gigantic running leap that has taken you farther than you’ve ever been.
We’re closing in on one year now. What once felt desperately impossible, is now our reality.
Love, Kate
P.S. Our skin looks amazing, we can eat now, and our body feels AND looks bomb as he||🤘🏼
I've spent most of my adult life doing the same. F up, sober up, wait, f up even bigger and spiral, rinse, and repeat. People just aren't ready to really try until they are really ready. Hope this is that time for you.
Hi Kate👋🏾 I feel the most important thing is that a person recognize what happened and what out of that may need a new viewpoint or a change. Congratulations on getting back going and four days is always huge. You also know you can go 76 days and you know you have that strength
Amazing! For those that don’t know Kate, she is coming up on a year very soon. She’s looking back today at her post she did at day 4 of her journey and giving her past Kate some love. Pretty cool post Kate!
I just want to say what everyone else has said to you. Only today matters. It really does help to minimize it and only do it one day at a time. Good luck to you, I believe you can succeed.
Thanks man! I know it makes the algorithms repost my original so it looks like I’m on day four lol BUT replying to myself on this thread as I hit milestones is a really big help for me.
Thanks for helping clarify and for your support!
