Deep brain fog

Hi everyone! I just got here today. I have 5 1/2 months sober and i am wondering if any of you have experienced brain fog at this point in your recovery. I am forgetting things left and right, names of things I've never struggled with before, short term memory is really struggling. Can anyone relate? Any suggestions? Thanks so much and am happy to be here!!

Yeah it takes time. It took me a while to get my memory back and become sharp. You can use to do list or calendars to help you. Don't, exercise, puzzles, crossword puzzles, puzzles, modulus, and reading can help with memory

Thanks! Was hoping it wasn't just me lol

Hey Robyn - I'm a month behind you but can absolutely relate! Some days are just off. When I get that sense I'm trying to reach out to others in my network and hit a meeting so as not to get too down about it

OMGosh- it’s scary - I thought I had really done some major damage but I stopped alcohol and my doctors took me off anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds at the same time - I was mid-diagnosed with bipolar for 30 years - for six months I don’t think I knew what my name was and I don’t remember it - now my brain feels like it did when I was in my 20’s

Brain fog happens. I'm almost 2 years sober, and I still get it. The only difference is it's not being caused by alcohol. When I get like that, breathing exercises really help me. This too shall pass.

Thanks Justin. Wow that's a long time but yeah.... it seems like i think about something that needs doing and go to do it and promptly forget. Frustrating!!

Brain fog after drinking is common, but it does get better! Every day you give your body and mind a break from alcohol, you’re moving closer to clear thinking. Keep going, clarity is coming!:sparkles:
