Woke up feeling depressed and unmotivated. It's crazy to me how depression can hit seemingly out of nowhere and when things are going really well. I hate feeling this way, but am thankful for the tools I've learned in AA and my recovery that have given me ways to cope that don't involve numbing my feels with alcohol. I dragged myself out of bed, took a shower, and am taking today one small task at a time. Reminding myself the feelings are temporary and this too shall pass.
Hang in there Molly
Thanks Luis! Really proud of myself for being able to cope with these feelings in a healthier way. Still not easy though!
Thanks for sharing Molly. Sorry youāre having a difficult morning. Youāre right about how these moods can just happen out of nowhere. Itās a blessing to be aware of how you feel, and to have a program and tools to get thru it. Your photos always bring me peace. Scroll thru some of your photos and think of all the beauty you have captured on film.
Know what you mean. Medicine has helped with that and not giving upš
Thanks Lee! I do feel blessed to be aware of my feelings and have tools to help me through the tough days. Already feeling a bit better than I was this morning and hoping to make it out to the beach tonight for a sunset walk
Thanks Mark! I've considered medication but I'm fortunate my depression doesn't hit too frequently and I've found ways to cope without it. I'm glad you've found it helpful!
Thatās awesome !
Thank you all for the kind words. I had a lot of work and volunteer meetings this afternoon/evening. Being around people and doing work I find fulfilling alongside friends definitely helped a bit with my mood. Still feeling down but better than I was - and another evening going to bed sober which is always a great feeling!
I have learned that when I get depressed, I need to get out of the house. Being stuck in the house canāt town my depression. I will go to the mall and just people watch. Just saw them around people. Iāll spend a couple hours there and when I get home, I feel as if, I actually am coming home from work. Iām retired because of a disability. I found it. I was drinking all day long while I was stuck in the house. The sun feels good on my face. I also have talk therapy with a psychologist that really helps. Iāve been diagnosed with MDD, GAD, PTSD, and SUD.
I share the feeling. Your not alone. Having a plan to put one foot in front of the other is awesome.
Have def been hit with this in the morning. Do you have a morning routine? Itās hard to stick to it those days but sometimes itās easier to just mechanically do stuff to get moving. Can be anything from meditating, stretching, journaling, going on a walk. I listen to a morning affirmations meditation every morning to start and that really helps. Also not having a phone in bed and scrolling first thing because that def makes depression run towards us. Sending you courage.
I heard a saying while in a program that has really helped me deal with depression. āYou donāt have bad days, you have bad momentsā. The start of your day can begin bad and turn around very quickly.
Hope your today is better.
