I'm doing great in my sobriety I feel better than I ever have ever probably. My concern is I have a best friend in sobriety that is just soul sucking. I know that it's my problem to be able to limit how she affects me but that's super difficult. I tend to be a person that's All or nothing and I know that she's just going to grip harder if I make a partial separation if that means anything to anybody LOL I know I have to find gray areas myself but right now she just sucks the life out of me I know it's me problem just looking for advice.
It's not a you problem it's a you solution. You have to protect your recovery and your peace at all cost.
You don’t have to blow up the friendship or keep giving her full access. There’s a middle. Answer less, be less available, stop explaining every boundary, and pay attention to how you feel after you’ve been around her. If you leave every conversation drained, that’s information. And I wouldn’t put all of this on yourself either. A friendship has 2 people in it. Really glad you shared this.
I found that the Alanon program is helpful with the practice of "Loving Detachment"
Hope it works out
Thank you for all the input y'all are great
Wish I had good advice! I'm usually always looking for a reason to detach, sadly. Maybe your friendship is worth fighting for, but it has to be a net positive for you. Best of luck.
