Detox is just the very beginning. Stay the course. Find a real program of recovery to bring you to a life you dreamed of.

I quit drinking for my kids. I got sober for me. It’s not unicorns and rainbows every moment of every day, but it is never as bad as a hungover morning reaching for my phone to see what :poop: I did the night before. It’s not reaching for the morning drink. It’s not filled with fear, anxiety, regret, shame, self pity.

I don’t panic when I see my boss or a cop or get a text from my ex wife. My kids are excited to see me and I don’t have to time our activities between the hangover and the drunkenness. The freedom that I thought came from drinking actually came through surrendering to it.

Life is meant to be lived. Not feared. Not numbed. Recovery is a reconciliation with your past so that you can lift your head high and step into your future.
