Do anyone one feel like a.a is spiritual and iam not it’s hard for me to understand get it
AA is a “spiritual” program. I was never spiritual either. It took me a long time to get past steps 2/3. I kept going back to an old dude with a big beard on a cloud. My sponsor had me write a “job description” for my higher power. If I was going to hire one, what was an absolute need in a higher power. Even that took a bit because I wasn’t sure. I needed to think about what was important to me, what I needed, what I DID NOT need. In the end my higher power just is. That’s it. It just is.
If you haven’t read the 12 and 12 that’s a good resource to get a better idea of step 2 and 3.
I hope you find what you are looking for.
Thankyou for sharing I will try
The sober version of yourself can be your higher power.
We are all spiritual beings deep inside. Some of us just have a lot of scar tissue to deal with. If you're having trouble "getting it", maybe try saying good morning to your higher power when you wake up. It sounds silly, but just establishing a line of communication can be a good start. That little voice in your head saying nice things to you is your higher power, but sometimes it gets shouted down by our negative self-talk that we've been listening to for so long. Just keep wanting to get well, and before long, the higher power's voice gets louder and the negative nonsense fades.
Keep spending time in nature. It always helps me connect with my spirituality
yes and if i could elaborate on this thought…
You must get rid of the Ego. Learn and observe when you are thinking in the Ego mindset. Challenge: Can you have a conversation without starting your sentences without the use of I,me, my.
I want a cig,
I want another hit,
I this, I that,
I, I, I
learn to brush off those thoughts because YOU (I) don’t need a cig
Does that make sense ?
I study and follow multiple religions and find spiritual value in all of them. I am not too sure about Jesus but I pray to my Creator. I consider my higher power to be the rhythm of the universe.
Yes. AA is a religious program at its core. People try very hard to tell you it isn't but if that was the case why would there be a need for secular meetings? It is a lot of in the moment translation to understand what people are really saying when they use God or Higher Power. I had to start my own secular meeting so I didn't start drinking again
. Here is a list of alternate 12 steps. It really helped me understand AA better when I removed God! ---- Alternative 12 Steps – Atheists Agnostics and All Others
Great explanation Tim! I really like the “job description” reference.
I think the main point is that relying on yourself can only go so far as we are all very weak limited beings, though our egos tell us we're not. AA I think tries to get you to realize that and encourage you to admit your weakness and find support you can always rely on. Because you can't always rely on yourself.
What is this please
Everyone has their own spirituality, and if you don’t have one, that’s ok too. When we are new to AA, it’s all very overwhelming but the pieces to the puzzle will start to fit the longer you stay with the program.
