Do you allow alcohol in your house? I recently relapsed

Zero alcohol is allowed on my property. The way I explain it is, my sobriety (especially after a relapse) is so sacred to me, and I have to protect it like my life depends on.. because it does. Anyone who cares for me grasps and respects this.

Last summer my sister and her bf came to help with projects for a weekend and when they arrived, I spotted a 12-pack on the floor of his backseat. (They were going to be staying in our travel trailer so I wondered if maybe they misinterpreted the rule?) I fretted on it but didn’t want to “ruin” the weekend by bringing it up and figured I’d just kindly tell her when they left. However, at 3 am that night I found myself suddenly wide awake and staring out of my bedroom window at his truck, all kinds of fantasies running amuck. If I had any question of my boundaries before, they were solidified right then. I reached out to a sober acquaintance for support to get through the night and then let them know in the morning: the beer needs to be GONE.

What do you mean? :two_hearts:

Sorry. @amandaloosidsupport44083 said she doesn’t allow MJ in her house. And the guy who created and runs this app is named MJ so it was a bit of a pun.

But to answer your question, there has been alcohol in my house since I got sober and it was ok for me. I didn’t drink. I didn’t care. But in general I don’t keep any around

Haha! Love it.

Weird. Nothing I did. It’s going. They have alcohol in the house. I even bought some for them since I was the one to go to the store. Had a couple times last night when I wanted some because I was in pain from a hard day’s yard work but am feeling quite strong in my goals right now so don’t feel at risk. The recent relapse was a huge motivation to not even touch the stuff. None of them have been drinking heavily and I’m noticing that if I were drinking, I would definitely be out drinking all of them and wondering why nobody is keeping up. I went kind of crazy on sweets last night though.

Also told them I quit drinking so it would be weird if I started in front of them. Now I’m accountable to my word.

I give pool parties and bbqs. I also sing and play the alto sax.
There's alcohol everywhere.
With God's grace and help and therapy for the underlying issues, and finally learning how to effectively deal with stress, I don't need the alcohol.
Yes, it's been in my house for months at a time. Forgot it was even there.

That’s awesome! Impressive for sure. I hope I can have the same someday

I know this is an older post but found it intriguing. I’m only a couple weeks in, but I have several beers and a bottle of tequila around plus some wine. For whatever reason, I’m not bothered at all. Perhaps because there’s a liquor store walking distance away. At any rate, I feel “above it” at this point in time, but am also trying not to get overconfident.

Thanks Ricky! I’m on day 3 for the third time now. There’s a ton of liquor in my house from a party last weekend where I relapsed. Now that I’m on this side of it again I have ZERO interest in it and Lille won’t for a couple months…but then outta nowhere a craving will happen and the convenience will cause me to cave…so I think it just depends on the person and each of part of your journey. :heart:Learning myself and my triggers.

I don’t keep it in my house. I cook a lot and would love to have wine on hand for sauces and such, but wine is also my DOC so I don’t dare bring it here. My longest stint of sobriety was three years and even then I didn’t bring wine into my house.

Makes perfect sense. It’s fun to bounce stuff off of others, but at the end of the day, each of our journeys is unique and what others do or don’t do is moot

Much like recovery, I feel this is different for each of us. The only “right” answer in my mind is whatever is best for you to maintain your sobriety.
