Do you ever feel that all the bad stuff you did drunk wants to catch up with you in a month or less?
I tore my ACL in rehab, bike accident with stitches, car problems now that I have it, and all my family is on the outs. I know things could be worse .... but really?!
definitely
That’s where the fourth step comes in. Put it all out there to a stranger and it loses it’s power. I used to be so afraid, but then I realized the world is full of shitty people who don’t use. I did some messed up stuff when I would use . Now that I quit I don’t do shitty things .
Sometimes but Kendrick Lamar put it perfectly “I got some regrets, but my past won’t keep me from my best.”
Absolutely. And the fourth step helps but that doesn't mean that something won't catch up. I stole money from my boss and even years later I was in fear that he would notice it was missing even though it was a small amount compared to what he had. Well he did and it was on a hidden camera with motion sensing recording. He didn't press charges or anything because I told him straight up what was up with me and thank god he was compassionate and showed me some grace. I payed it back in the end. But speaking with someone else also helps because some things I worried about for the longest, many people said it was irrational and they couldn't possibly catch up to me. A lot I ended up making amends on later down the road which is so freeing! Some you can't because they are gone, don't want anything to do with you or as they say in the steps..."make direct amends when ever possible, except when to do so could injure them or others."
Well I dont think a fourth step will help me from injuries due to a bike or sporting thing I do think I realise and can remember stuff now and frankly it's not all Rose's but I am going to bed sober so I am happy.
Nah. This is just the cycle of life. The difference is that you don't have a numbing escape that you run to every time it gets hard. These things come in bunches. And you'll endure and survive all of them!
Thx yup, that's a good viewpoint
Just pray about it and everything will be fine just don't touch the bottle or the can
Certainly not afraid
Yes indeed!
It will eventually catch up and feels like the entirety of all the weight is pressing down. Just take one thing at a time, chip away at it and sooner then you think… it is manageable. And it only feels overwhelming because you are actually feeling it rather then numbing it all away. The longest journey still starts with the first step out the door.
Humbly speaking, I’m surprised nobody has mentioned amends here.
Don’t wait for things to catch up with you. Face them. Get straight with those you have wronged, authentically, and to the best of your ability. Some people, you won’t be able to find and some won’t respond, but pursue healing that stuff anyway.
Amends is one of those AA things that crosses over to whatever path to (and through) sobriety you choose.
After almost 4 years sober, I don’t know that lasting sobriety is even possible without amends.
If you’re afraid of things catching up with you, then clearly, you have some kind of spiritual belief similar to Karma and therefore, apologizing wholly, without making it about you or making excuses for yourself (even if not welcomed by the other person), might also help indirectly with your injuries and misfortune.
2 cents-
Life gets lifey. A drink or a drug is like a pause button but all the problems are still there, building up, just waiting for you when you sober up.
Sorry about your knee. Cars break down on everyone eventually. Families take time and patience. Most need to see actions of sobriety and consistency in better behavior and decisions before they buy into the changes we make. Until they are ready to hear it, you make it up to them in your own way by living a sober life of humility and service to people who still struggle. How other people feel isn’t your problem to fix.
Yes, the Steps are definitely the solution!
