Do you know your triggers? If so- how you best avoid them or handle them
The best advice I got from my sponsor when I was very early in sobriety was ādonāt be where you donāt need to beā. For me it was a situational trigger, campfires, golf, home remodeling⦠o just avoided those things until I had a better handle on being sober. And I always have a phone list on standby just in case.
Ty
I donāt like that word..itās triggering..lol..but seriously..itās a word to loose..because all it is is an excuse
Thank youšš»
I plan to add exercise. Iāll look into 75 hard. Thank uš
Something I learned early on from an old timer thatās no longer with us..āstop making excuses and do the workā he would say that all the time
I always make excuses and never finished my steps so yea thatās accurate
After 6 years of sobriety I find the old standard of lots of meetings and a strong sober network are critical. Everything for me can be a triggerā¦.bad days, good days, beaches, my garage, etc. I just have to live in recovery with lots of meetings and a lot of phone numbers of sober people. It has become automatic to reach out to someone or my sponsor when Iām not feeling right. Gets me through the moment, then the hour, then the day. Keep literature handy. Know that the next drink takes us right back to the pain that got us here in the first place.
Remember your the only one that can do it..find an old crusty dude thatās been watching flounder around and ask him..he knows you pretty well, and youāve probably missed him or heās intimidating..thatās the guy you go through the book with..also, if they donāt point you in the direction of the book they arenāt teaching AA..they are teaching treatment..and treatment is a business..what does a business need to succeed?
Yes money, I guess I havenāt actually wanted to do the work until now or I think I do. Itās weird. I have too many thoughts. Lol @tim138766
Collect your thoughts..pray the answers will come
Thanks I lost my original network on my first stride when I had 7-8 years or so⦠definitely hard to get it back
Donāt worry about the past..this isnāt like anything youāve done, or will do..stay in the present..I just buried an old friend who just had to have one last taste..and thatās how it happens..if itās not that serious..or you think you got another one..yeah you might, but thereās always that chance that this could be it..this might be the time I donāt make it back..he struggled for 21 years..one time is all it took
Sorry for your loss:. I appreciate your kind words tonight you helped me a lot
Someone was there for me..now maybe you can do the same for someone else..this is how it works..honestly I hate the word triggers..and I got a little triggered from it..but this is what WE do..trust the plan and donāt get off the bus till we get to Disneyland
It can be anything for me. Relationships, things not going my way (haha), depression, rejection, boredom, loneliness. So, I MONITOR my reactions. Determine what I have control over and what I do not. Then I give what I can to God and then try to change my mindset and attitude about what's bothering me and reframe it. Definitely has taken years of practice and I'll keep at it. When I go back to negative thinking and reacting then it's a danger zone.
Drinking is your trigger. Youāll come up with all kindsa reasons to pick up until you stop trying to identifyātriggersā
I believe to acknowledge them and with a mindfulness meditation process them without judgement.
