Does anyone else feel like the longer you abstain from

Does anyone else feel like the longer you abstain from a substance, it doesn't even feel natural to imagine consuming it? Like drinking alcohol would, psychologically, feel like drinking rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover. I guess it feels the way it always should have felt, being socially acceptable poison. Curious if anyone else has felt similarly.

I feel ya. Like taking poison. This time around for me there is no wanting to poison myself. It feels pretty awesome having that feeling of using lifted. Then again, I’ve got an overwhelming higher power that constantly bugs me 24/7. Let him control my mind and thinking. Works for me. And being surrounded constantly by recovery. I’m a meeting junkie now. Takes all that stinkin thinkin away. No room in this life for that ugliness anylonger.

I don’t want to think about it. Unnatural maybe, but be careful I guess. My mind can think that way, then snap over to remembering the taste of a favorite cocktail. Overconfidence got me to my last relapse, so I try not to imagine anything. I just stay the f away from those thoughts.

Yes. I’m funny about over ripe fruit now. I don’t like the smell of alcohol at all now.
But something about then smell of bourbon… I’m not completely recovered yet. ODAAT! Progress is progressive regardless of the path or speed.

I can’t even stand the smell of hand sanitizer. When I have a fleeting desire to drink, it’s usually linked to a fond memory but it really isn’t hard work for me to further remember what followed the 5 minutes of a good time.
