Does anyone else feel they’ve lost some of their confidence to socialize? I’ve been so strong in my recovery but have noticed I’m very shy and awkward when talking to new people now, even people in recovery, and I never was this way when drinking / using.
Same, then the lightbulb went on and I realized that’s pretty much why I drank and went hard on drinking. I’m still working through it. At this point it’s a battle of loneliness vs shyness? Idk but I do know that I will not fall back into drinking to be social. I rather have meaningful friendships than being that drunk “fun” girl.
Absolutely you not the only one but it comes back in time mine is already
Liquid courage. Yes. I was always participating in any intimate or social gatherings boozed up. That's how I was comfortable and could engage in conversations. I FELT I needed that or else I was boring and awkward. BUT, the pain of being a alcoholic out ways my need to be socially accepted. Truth is before anyone likes me I have to learn to Love myself.
It will come back. I know I went through the same thing early on, and now I seldom shut up!
Something’s take time.what ever you do don’t stop.it all gets better.keep going to meetings.
