Does anyone else have dreams about drinking and being drunk? They seem so real. So thankful to wake up and still be sober!

I had using dreams occasionally in my first month or two of sobriety, I rarely have them anymore. It’s a great feeling when you wake up and realize it wasn’t real.

I had them often early on. They are infrequent now but still happen. I’ve even had dreams where I knowingly relapse. But I can’t remember a dream where I enjoyed drinking.

I’ve had them occasionally where I know I’m sober I’m my dream but I wake up just before I take a sip. It’s not often but every once in awhile :man_shrugging:

I still have them sometimes, almost three years in. The worst one is the one where I’m still interacting with sober communities and sticking with my sober date even though I’ve secretly been back to drinking for a while. I’m not sure if it’s a dream about drinking or being dishonest with myself. Either way it sucks, but there is something to be said about that feeling of relief when I wake up and realize I’m still on the wagon!

Yeah it happens to all of us. I wake up scared and more focused most of the time that I don’t like that version of myself. I asked my therapist and she said it is completely normal to have. Just try and stay focused on your goal.

It was pretty bad when I first got sober, I would have very vivid, intense dreams of drinking, it felt so real that I freaked out when I woke up because I was on an alcohol tether, doing random testing, and living in a 3/4 house. As time has gone on, they occur less often, and I am grateful for that.

All the time. But even in my dreams I am upset with myself for relapsing. And yes so relieved to wake up and realize it is just a dream!

Misty, oh my goodness did I have those using dreams! I’d wake up in a panic. Trying to trace back my footsteps… it’s a scary feeling. They very much feel so real. It’s like I got high in my sleep… very weird.
They definitely have subsided the longer I stay sober.
