Does anyone else suffer from an eating disorder as well

Does anyone else suffer from an eating disorder as well as alcoholism. I turn to binging and purging as a way of coping when alcohol is off the table. I’m trying to battle both I know it’s killing me as I’m dangerously underweight but it seems like I do anything to deliberately hurt my body and I feel desperate

Have you tried professional help? Doctor assisted?

Ughhh. ..I know the frustration of being cross addicted. I’ve experienced similar issues over the course of many years. The one and only thing that has worked for me is working the 12 steps of multiple programs. As you are finding out, addiction is a disease of escaping our feelings and emotions. Therapy helps, but I’ve never been completely healthy until I incorporated the 12 steps into my life. I’m sure there may be other ways, but for me I had to rely on a power higher than myself to give up control of all the way unnecessary crazy things that I had no control over. It’s a simple concept, but I fought it tooth and nail until it destroyed me. I had no choice but to surrender. I still wrestle with it today, but as I’m much more aware of when I’m not feeling right, and I have tools to relieve that anxiety before it leads me back to needing to escape back to one of my addictions. Hope this makes a little sense. The good thing is you are very aware of what’s going on. You are not alone! You are not bad! You have an illness that makes you feel that way. It’s a disease of self destructive feelings that I pray we all can learn to overcome :peace_symbol:

CAn relate. Not with purging but binge unhealthy food occasionally and when I do it feels like a relapse. Lots of self hate after I am done. I’ll look at myself in the mirror and be repulsed. Then I vow it’s never going to happen again and when it does, the cycle repeats

Therapy has really helped me with a lot of impulsive behaviors. It’s really hard when you are going at it alone. Check our psychology today .com to research and find a therapist that can help with root issues.
