Does anyone else suffer from an eating disorder such as bulimia in my case and while trying to battle two demons ( booze and bulimia) I find that when I cut out the booze my bulimia strikes in as very active?

From what I’ve read and experienced with other issues, the alcohol makes them worse. It will temporarily make them go away, but as the body adjusts to the lack of alcohol the other issues are amplified. It may be helpful to connect with a doctor to safely detox, which could also address the bulimia in the process. I hope this helps!

How are you holding up Anastassia?

If you've ever had any treatment for your eating disorder or done any research because as addicts that's what we do, you'll know already that EDs are about trying to control things when everything else feels out of control. When you've taken alcohol out of the picture, the ED becomes more active likely because you could have been using the alcohol to mask feelings or drowning things out. If you've not already seen someone I would encourage you to go see someone and be honest no matter how scary it will be. I suffered from bulimia in my mid 20s to early 30s. After I got sober the first time I turned to exercise bulimia and anorexia to control my unresolved self esteem issues. Without proper treatment this may only get worse. EDs are just as deadly as alcoholism. If you ever want to talk, let me know.

Great share Arie! Appreciate your honesty and vulnerability. Hoping our friend Anastassia reaches out and gets some help. We can’t do this alone. We need each other.

Thank you for your kind response. Unfortunately ED disorders aren’t Curable by a simple pill, I can’t afford a therapist and there aren’t many free helpful resources for that kind of addiction. It’s either one extreme to another I rather starve myself or binge and purge. I’m well aware that that it is gross. I am disgusted by my behaviour and feel very shameful. Sometimes I think there is no hope one thing or another will eventually kill me eventually. Why do I hate myself so much to destroy this one body we are given?

The book Quit Like a Woman addresses the author’s eating disorder as well as her alcoholism. It’s a good read.

If you have a few minutes, check out Dr Adi Jaffe’s podcast and recovery website. It’s helped me dig deep into some issues, and recover from them. IGNTD podcast is his podcast, and igntdrecovery.com is the website. Hope this helps :peace_symbol:.

I’m not sure if this will be of any help. It’s free of charge and there are others there that suffer from such.. as well body dysmenorrhea’s.
I work in the addiction field and unfortunately there is not much available to individuals. Even though I work at a dual diagnosis facility there is still minimal for such disorders.. especially when it comes to eating disorders as well sexual addiction.
I hope that link could be of some help :hugs:

I hope that I didn't convey that EDs could be curable in any sense. I totally understand the all or nothing thinking pattern. I'm still trying to pull out of it myself. There are a number of reasons why we damage our bodies. You are not alone. Have you tried maybe finding support groups. I'm sorry that you're going through this. I'm not sure where you are but sometimes universities have a counseling department that are fairly reasonable. Support groups are usually free. It couldn't hurt to contact a therapist office to see if they know of any support groups near you or other resources that may be reasonable. A lot of therapists are willing to see people on a sliding scale. Keep reaching out, that's why we're here.

Yes, I deal with both.

Whatever you are going through is hard and it feels like you are all alone. Finding other people who have similar challenges and learning from them how they have been successful is so helpful.

Quit Like a Woman is a really good book as was mentioned earlier. Don’t give up on yourself. So glad you are a fighter!!

Can doctor help.with these.

I’m sure there are therapy but I’m trying to deal with one demon first. I just started online college towards an HR payroll degree since I partied most of my life away. Yes I’m in my early 30s but when people say it’s never too late, I agree, but I wouldn’t be able to see 19 year old fresh faces in a classrooms I’d be too ashamed. Since I quit drinking I’m able to do things I could never imagine, like joining a gym and be able to talk to people without worrying that you smell like booze. There IS a chance for EVERYONE
