Does anyone have any advice for trying to live a sober live style, but dating someone who drinks?

Hi Dave.

After I was about 15 months sober, I started dating someone that smoked weed. Because my mind was clear, I was able to see his patterns and they reminded me of how I was. Ended after 6 months.

Being up front about your recovery is important. If they are a normal drinker, it won't be a problem for them to respect your boundaries. If you have a program, lean on your sponsor. Great challenge to work on with a home group.

Hi Alicia, thanks for the reply. I guess i just want to feel like it is possible for it to work, and sometimes I just don’t know…. She is supportive of me, but I just wonder how our two paths can work together… I don’t want to feel like I’m not enough because I’m sober. I guess time will tell. Maybe it is me that has to be more understanding of her being a drinker, and not the other way around.
