Does Anyone have any recommendations as far as inspirational videos

Does Anyone have any recommendations as far as inspirational videos on YouTube about Learning to be you sober. I haven’t been able to find any of that aren’t either very depressing or given by someone who it hasn’t been there. I have been drinking and using heavily since I was 12 years old and I’m just starting to learn how to do a lot of things for the first time without mind altering fake courage. Also I live in an area where I literally know no one in recovery. So it would be really great to have people to talk to that get me. I have been sober from alcohol since the Super Bowl. I was 18 months sober and relapsed on the Fourth of July. I have been clean from drugs since February 22 of 2020.

Honestly, I’ve never been able to find something like that other than going to a meeting. It’s within those walls that people can connect with the feelings you have because we’ve all been there in some way. You’re not alone, no matter how much you may feel it’s true at times.

I appreciate that. And I know that you’re right. But the meets where I live are very old school AA and I don’t currently drive. So I’m kind of stuck.

I get the old school AA thing. I am in Milwaukee. And I also had to learn on my own how to live sober. It took time, but now I golf, hunt, camp, fish, work… all sober. You could try zoom, or even talk to your sponsor to get pointers. Or reach out here. I am happy to talk to you anytime.

You might try Sober Leon. Just be aware that he is selling a service (which I’m neither promoting nor panning), but in general I’ve found the content of 80% of his videos to be solid.

U Tub has a lot of speaker meetings on there. Aa. :dromedary_camel:

Zoom can work. Don't get discouraged if you don't like a lot of them. It does take some time to find the quality ones where people are serious. Feel free to reach out.

Kaley,
AA’s 11 tradition states the following
“Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather then promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio and films.”

Long form goes on to tell us:

“Our relations with the general public should be characterized by personal anonymity. Our names and pictures as AA members ought not be broadcast, filmed, or publicly printed. Our public relations should be guided by the principles of attraction rather promotion. There is never need to praise ourselves. We feel it better to let our friends recommend us.”

I recommend trying AA or NA meetings either online or in person.

That can be super hard! I know it happens a lot. This app is great and there are lots of good sobriety facebook groups and zoom meetings too. You can chat with me any time and I would be happy to help. Starting over and learning how to do life now without the fake courage is hard but it can be done :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: you will be ok! Just keep reaching out and real life advice wise I am here any time! Hang in there!

There's a podcast called "Recovered." It's out of Detroit. I love it!! I go to NA Zoom meetings in NYC a lot. Why not try different things? The internet can be a powerful recovery tool!

Hi Kaley, I would suggest finding meetings on zoom too. Also, AA, NA are not the only programs to help you through your recovery.
SMART is a program you might be interested in too. Google it and see if there are any meetings around you, or that you can join via zoom.

I am also available to chat with you. I am just trying to stay clean like you, but it always feels better to talk to someone that has been where you are trying to escape from.
