Does anyone have any tips to make it past 2 weeks

Does anyone have any tips to make it past the first two weeks of sobriety. I am having alcohol craving after 5 days and a general sense of uneasiness.

Go to meetings, stay in contact with others in recovery

That’s pretty normal. The cravings get easier with time. Keep going to meetings. At least one a day. Two if you need to. Get a sponsor, work steps. Don’t beat yourself up man. Keep working it.

Very normal. I had a benzo addiction also which was a much harder kick than the alcohol. Eat well, sleep if you can (if you can’t rest peacefully, I didn’t sleep for a while), long walks… very long, meetings, avoiding triggers, etc… it takes time. Know you are on the right track.

And of course the obvious: don’t drink

Hello Jay, I would like to offer you someone to chat with if you need it. I'm coming up on 11 years... might be able to help you out when you're having a hard time.

I wish you all the best. You got this. How you are feeling is how you should be feeling. You know it’s a problem, your posting about it here, keep working it. Like Jem said above, reach out to anyone.

Jay, congrats on 5 days! Welcome to Loosid!
I heard that getting a big bag of candy can help. Alcohol is full of sugar. When we stop drinking our bodies begin to crave sugar. I can say that I ate lots of sweets in early sobriety. Lots of hiking. Exercise and trying to eating healthy helped as well.
I went to meetings as often as I could. Got phone numbers of those that talked about their experiences and what they did to get to where they are now. Got a service position making coffee. Volunteering at the local food bank one to two times a week.

When you get to the point you want to drink, play the tape as they say. Think about the drink. Then what comes next. Follow the process to the reason you decided to get sober in the first place.

This is off topic to the post but I wanted to ask, since I was in benzos also, have you notified that your muscles are more tense now? For me, my shoulders are so tight that I need a heating pad to relax and sleep at night. I think this is caused from prior benzo use and was curious if others experience this

Talk to people who have more time than you do. That has helped a lot for me.

Do you play video games? I use PlayStation at home and I downloaded a few games for my phone . Anything that distracts you is a good idea.. whether it’s reading, hiking, music, cleaning, watching TV.. there is this sober app I use that has a small game in it to help w urges. It’s literally just a memory game where you flip cards over.

I am also playing kitty island resort on my phone. :joy:

Keep taking it 1 day/moment at a time. Don't stress as the weeks go on. Know you can do this. Stay connected. Reach out if you're struggling.

I went through all of that also. The muscle aches, no sleep, not eating, etc…. If it gets too bad talk to a good doctor and be honest. Otherwise know it gets better with time, like most things. Best wishes, you got this

Meetings are helping me.

90 meetings in 90 days

Here is a tip: If you have one foot in yesterday and one foot in tomorrow, you're pissing all over today.

What can you do now to overcome these cravings? Many good ideas in the comment section. Community service goes along way too. What can you do today to help others? Also what can you do today for self care/love? Eat healthy and Exercise will do wonders too. Are you getting enough sleep. Proper sleep is crucial. Are you reading AA literature or journaling? One day at a time
