Does anyone know / has had to deal with intense anxiety after getting sober? If so what helps for you?
Yes I went through a long period of bad anxiety and panic attacks after getting sober. I worked with a therapist and psychiatrist. It helped changing my mindset. I had to leave the past behind. The book "the power of now" helped me a lot. Also getting out of the house as much as possible is helpful.
Thank you so much for the advice it’s been a pretty rough past couple of months and I’ve tried various different ways to try to coupe with my anxiety without having to use substances
For me it's lots of exercise. Hit the gym and sauna after. Makes my day go much smoother. Much more anxious on days I can't exercise.
Finding something to keep yourself occupied stay focused on recovery ❤‍🩹 don’t let the anxiety get you in a place where you feel alone stay connected find positive people that can not only help but understand and work your program you got this
The 12 Steps are a great help, doing the work helps, and sometimes you just have to give time time to heal ya. I once heard a speaker say that what her real problem was was living sober, that her mind was going nuts in reality and that resonated with me too
Hi Kayla, I have found waking up with a grateful heart helps me. Deep breathing. Move a muscle change your thoughts, lots of prayers, meditation, vitamin B12 , exercise, and talking about what's bothering you. Our disease dies in the light of exposure, get it out of you, give it to God and to someone else. Also, living the program, not just attending. Hope this helps! I believe in you!
Hey Kayla for me I filled my day with to much to do stay busy busy. Your mind we get into what ever the task at hand and leave the anxiety state hopefully it may help
Exercise every morning pushed it right out for me. Get your whole body moving. If I miss a day I feel a little on edge .
I found that exercise was so helpful
Hey Kayla! I had a lot of anxiety too. Distraction helped a lot. Had to get out of my head. Still do. It can get pretty dark and chaotic in there. You’re definitely not alone in this!
