Does it feel sometimes at meetings like it is a sort of funeral, wake, etc. of your addiction life? Not in a bad way always just that life is over and you’re starting a new life.
That’s a good thing. Idea is to learn a new way. Pretty depressing stuff we did in our addictions. Using meetings to dump that ugly stuff is it’s purpose. And to learn tools to live that new life. Good analogy. A wake for the past. And an awakening to a new life.
I get what you are saying Chris. I literally said I had to bury that other side of me that slowly took over and wrecked my life. I’m one of those sick f$cks that literally led 2 lives. That second identity did things that I wanted to do, but couldn’t and would never do. I had to bury that no good sob.
I don’t know where you are at, but at about 3-4 months I had some remorse over the death of my drinking life. Even though I knew that was stupid and was enjoying sober life so much. Still I was a little sad sometimes. Not anymore though. That’s passed.
I was downright angry at times. I wanted to act out and/or get loaded but I knew I couldn’t. I wanted what I wanted and I was pissed I couldn’t have it. Haven’t had those feelings in a while. I’m dealing and healing
Right in the middle of that I decided to take my wife down to Savannah for a little mini vacation. Idk wtFu(k I was thinking. It was during st Patrick’s weekend. I didn’t know A that Savannah is a party town or B that they have the 2nd biggest St pat’s celebration in the country. That was a very big test of my sobriety that I didn’t plan on. Thankful I found a really cool daily morning AA meeting that I went to there.
That’s such an interesting thought, I could read a eulogy for my past drinking life that would be both hilarious and sad, all at the same time. Reminds me of the transition from corpse pose to a new day after yoga practice and savasana
…both hilarious and sad. I so get that. In the end the consequences of the sad wasn’t worth the hilarious
After 30 years of use, it was a death of my old life. I divorced, eliminated 99% of my ‘friends’ and moved. It’s lonely, but it is a new life. I don’t mourn the loss of the old one, I did at first, now I just regret I didn’t change sooner
Agree!!!
Then you’re definitely in the right place
