Ive been at my current job for 2 years next month. It's ok all in all. Pays the bills. Not perfect but most other positions would start less pay for me. The boss and over half the workers going out after work tonight. There is a major amount of drinking after work (occasionally during after normal business hours while on overtime) I feel like an outcast staying sober but know there's no way I could hang out in a bar with all of them and stay sober. I wonder if I'm just a "bad fit" for the job with such a drinking culture or if that's just the norm everywhere? It makes it tough some days trying to stay sober...

That drinking culture is everywhere you go. I had an employer who celebrated my team by taking out us to a local restaurant after work. They paid for appetizers and drinks. Well, let's say I had to pay for my juice because they were only paying for alcohol beverages.

Every job I had in office was like that however no one thought of the non drinkers as outcast. I donโt think you should worry, your sobriety is far more important.๏ฟผ

That's not even cool of them atall! I'd ask how you managed to hangout and stay sober? I'd appreciate the advice for down the road (atleast several months of conservative sobriety which I'm no where near)

Maybe I'm making myself feel that way and it's nothing personal (I tend go take things too personally) Just saying there are never sober afterwork goings-ons

My current job also has the culture of drinking - that includes lunch drinks while out. Normally I would be right there with em. Muster up all the strength you got. And get another day

I hear ya with the normally I'd be right there with them! Have been more times than I could ever count! Not today somehow...took dog for walk in the sunshine and melting snow.

There are lots of jobs where drinking is not part of it.
Are you working a program? Going to meetings?
I went to my 1st meeting this year (2024) tonight. I feel better that I went! Oddly enough speaking of jobs and where I work...well the AA meeting tonight was held in the building which was the starter location for my current job! Lol 
the irony! I had been 10 sheet to the wind before drinking after work with coworkers in the very room which I was attending AA. God has a wicked sense of humor
