Drinking dreams

Let’s talk drinking dreams. Who experiences them and at what point in your recovery? I’m at about 3.5 weeks alcohol free and they come and go right about this point. Not a fan. Always so glad to wake up and realize I didn’t in fact drink!

They were constant for a while. They’ve subsided mostly. Now my dreams are almost exclusively about being around people or being social in some aspect. I think it’s baring out that’s the thing I miss the most about my bar days…

I am two years sober from all substances. I still have drinking dreams. They usually shake me up pretty bad because I feel guilty even though it was just a dream.

I had one just last night. They're not uncommon for m red. I got caught trying to hide a can of beer.

To me it's a good reminder you are serious about being sober. :grinning:

I used to have a certain drinking dream... about getting another dui. Not fun and they didn't feel good

Completely normal. I haven't had any in a long time and I am over 8 years sober. But I have had them. And you're right it is great to wake up and realize it was just a bad dream.

I’m a little over 100 days and I think they started in the first month, in my dreams I’d know I was trying to get sober and would consciously relapse in the dream… I’d wake up happy about it being just a dream but also happy that even in my subconscious I still know I’m sober. It hasn’t happened the first couple times I tried getting clean and this is the longest I’ve gone so I think they are a good sign to me

Alsooo when I was actively using I’d have drug and drinking dreams all the time and be like “ woah haha I was fucked up in my dream last night” now I’m like “woah I knew I was recovering in my dream last night” weird sh*

I just celebrated three years of sobriety and I had one just a few weeks ago. I rarely remember my dreams so I find it significant that I remember this one. I was trying to interact with others at a party or a bar but I was too drunk to even walk. I was paralyzed with guilt and shame. I’m certainly no dream expert but it seems to me that I’m still holding on to some guilt and shame for the person I used to be. I called my sponsor as soon as I could. It was definitely a powerful experience and it has reinforced my faith in the program.

I'm at 4.5 years. I had one about a month ago, but that was the first time in a while, so in my opinion it gets a lot better.

Unless your name is Paul Pelosi!

Yup I have them periodically at 14 months. For me it’s usually some version if I’m drinking a soda at a party or event and am one or two drinks in and realize they were lightly spiked and now I’m buzzing and it’s too late. Not earth shattering but definitely have the disappointment. But i usually also accept it happened and consign myself to start fresh again, which is cool. Now anxiety dreams where I’m losing items or running late or stressing about an appointment… those still pop up and really tick me off!
