I have injuries from falls when I was drinking and they are a daily reminder of my disease. How do people mentally handle this?
I have tons of injuries and get reminders daily. What do you mean handle it mentally? Did your injuries affect your activities of daily living?

To a degree and just the shame of it
Sometimes we have to give ourselves the same grace we give to others. It’s ok to forgive yourself for being a jackass when you’re drunk. Use it as motivation to change. Don’t beat yourself up about the past. It will lead to personal resentments and then drinking. Remember you’re only human, doing the best you can with the information you have on any given day. Now that you have more information you can make better decisions.
Stay strong and forgive yourself!
Thank you Stephanie
Like Stephanie said, you need to forgive yourself. Once you do that it becomes easier to ask forgiveness, make amends, or just be more gentle with yourself. We all have scars. Some visible some not. The scars do not define who YOU are, just what happened in the past.
Thank you Tim this was difficult for me to say
I too have scars as a reminder of my many falls while drinking. I look at them as battle scars against alcohol and how I have won.
My wife fell a lot while we were drinking a lot. Some of her friends shamed her a bit about it. I didn’t but that’s cause I was there. All you can do is move on. Your intent is to do better. Stick with that. Every time you see the sunshine or a blue sky or something good just think that your positive intention is making all this available to you. Injuries or not.
