Drunkest state

Living in Wisconsin, it can be difficult for people to grasp that I'm an alcoholic. Research has found that 25% of adults in wisconsin drink heavily. Over consumption almost seems the norm....come visit, and you will surely see people with shirts saying...."Drink wisconsibly" It can be seen as a flex to be able to over consume and almost a judgment if you don't drink. Does anyone else have the same struggle where their environment has a multi-layer pressure to drink and every area has booze involvement?

Yes. Yes. I’m in Milwaukee and the drinking culture is prevalent. It’s so hard to stay sober here. My daughter lives in Madison and it’s so much worse.

I'm in Greenfield WI. Are there any sober groups near us?

Not from Wisconsin but grew up in northern Illinois and would frequent Wisconsin often back in the day. Everything was always centered around drinking up there!

Yes the Pass it on Club is great. It’s on Forest Home Avenue. Let’s meet there if you can!:grinning:

So true

Yes, I’m getting my Masters rt now meaning at college with a lot of drinkers and parties.. I’m trying to do something good but so much bad around me. I get u..

I tried do the geological change and moved around all my life and finally realized that no matter where I lived I would seek out the drinkers and drugers. Its everywhere and we have to fight it or we will never win.I hope that made some sense I'm just saying for me that it was the way no matter where I lived and I had to get into a program and ask for help. Now I seek out people who are like me instead. Good luck and may God be with you.

Yes. It’s the norm everywhere. The recovery community I feel is changing that though

That's an A John Deere ain't it? Hi from roch.minn

I grew up on Cape Cod and our town motto was “Chatham: A Quaint Drinking Village with a Fishing Problem”. Legit EVERYBODY had the bumper sticker. Lol. I totally get it!

The " can b seen as a flex ... and almost a judgment ... " d**n the same thing is going on in Northeast PA. They just granted more liquor licenses a couple years ago too . I get it :unamused:

Yes, just over the Minnesota border in that part of Canada drinking, pre bar drinking, post bar drinking, a "thing". I grew up on the west coast and very different. When I moved here it was a shock. But fast forward 10 years drinking became a problem for me when it wasn't before. I do think the environment plays a role.

At my job almost everyone drinks. There are only a couple of us that don’t. It used to be hard because there would be a lot of questions as to why I don’t drink. I felt like my co workers were judging me. I increased my meetings and started talking to others and bringing topics up at meetings. All of this helped and now it doesn’t bother me

My reply to those questions is either, "I'm allergic to alcohol. I break out with stupidity", or, "I'm an ugly drunk. I don't want to live that way".

I grew up in the U.P. MI, bordering WI.
Oh Yes, I know the drinking culture up north. I left for Flagstaff, AZ when I was 20 and it took me 31 years to quit drinking, but i did! 3 yrs 3 months and some change ago! Best years of my life have been the past 3 yrs.

I'm in AGREEMENT THAT IT IS EASY TO STAY SOBER ANYWHERE IF YOU WANT TO BAD ENOUGH.....
