Early recovery

Tomorrow (Tuesday) will mark 2 weeks sober from alcohol! I’m very excited and grateful to accomplish this, but I can’t help but feel I’m not as driven as I was when I was going through the withdrawals and everything..

Like don’t get me wrong: I still have 0 will to drink, I’ve been going to AA meetings/church and the gym following my rules I set for myself last week, I just feel stagnant still. Like I want to stay sober and I KNOW I belong in and need AA.

The bottom line is that I need guidance, and I recognize that comes in the form of a sponsor. I’m nervous to ask people though. I have a lot of social anxiety (I probably used alcohol to cope with that much more than I realized).
So I sincerely ask.. how do you choose a sponsor? Or do they choose you? Should you ask someone you think you have alot in common with or someone completely different than you? What if it’s someone that’s already juggling alot of sponsees already and I don’t want to burden them? Can I just text someone who’s number was written on a pamphlet that I recognize and ask or is that not okay to do?

Any advice is welcome because I could really use it! I’m so ready to begin the steps but step 1.a. is already eating me up..

I chose my sponsor because I like what he said when he shared, his vibe was good, and he was the one who came up to me at my first meeting and said “don’t try to fix everything right away, fixing things come later… and be easy on yourself man”
He is still my sponsor and friend. Just go with your gut.
