Edward is my name. I need sobriety to save my family. My wife is serving me papers. I hope and hold out for more time. The alcohol and the war in Iraq and Afghanistan have pushed me to a point where my own family have become terrified of me. The shame has driven me to end it. I want to go on for my children. Mostly I hold on to hope that is not too late.

It isn’t too late! You have been through the ringer brother. First thing is don’t go into this for anyone but yourself! You are worthy and deserve peace in your soul for YOU! Second get into treatment. The VA has programs but look anywhere you can get a bed. Dial 211, they can assist you. You need to get yourself right first. Don’t worry about fixing the past right now… that comes later. We have been there brother. We know what you are going through. Several other vets are on this app. We got your back.

One of my AA buddies is in a similar position. See what the VA has to offer but AA or a similar program helps so much. When your loved ones see you going to meetings, etc… they know you’re trying. Hang in there.

As long as you have a pulse you still have a chance to recover, it's never too late, you still have a chance. Recovery is a long road but in time you can find peace. Good luck Ed

USMC 93-98 right here. Get your a$$ to meetings now and get to the VA for mental help. Before ANYTHING happens you have to get un-fücked.

Ed, welcome to Loosid! Welcome to recovery! Sobriety isn’t about getting or keeping our stuff. We must want this for ourselves.
I tried in the past to get sober for others. It worked for a very short time. I found myself drinking again. This time I’m working the AA program for me. And now that I have a few years I’m staying sober because I use the tools I have learned. I help others in their recovery.
I’ve mended relationships. I’ve lost relationships. I even went through a divorce in recovery and stayed sober. I put God first, then recovery, then my son, then others, then me. I’m last because I took so much from live prior to recovery that I’m here to give it all back.
I suggest finding a meeting, listening to those who have a good program and ask for a sponsor. Do the steps, learn about yourself, share with others your experience and then help someone else. All the stuff you have may means nothing if you can’t stay sober.
Ask questions. Lots of great recovery here on this app. I’m glad your here.
