Employment

Seeking advice or any input….Between jobs/job hunting and trying to stay sober. It’s a huge trigger for me. Anyone out there have employment/job searching tips when feeling vulnerable this way? Or a certain type of employment situation that worked for you in early sobriety?

Thankyou

I would need to know your story entirely and what kind of problems you’re having an issue is I could give you some feedback on that because my sister is a human resources advocate

Oh yeah I been there b4. I remember being laid off for five months a while back. Boredom , from not having a job , just a huge trigger. It was all too easy to just drink every single day. But this time around when I needed a job , I feel like Indeed helped me out quite a bit , it saved me. U can fill in all your job experience on Indeed , and it will put it in2 a format tht u can easily upload when your applying for the jobs online.

All that free time and uncertainty is a huge trigger for sure! Exercise was my saving grace during sober unemployment. It helped keep my mind clear and gave me something to plan my day around. As far as work situation, without knowing your job history or goals, best I can say is trust your gut and ask for what you want. And put feelers out there wherever you can. Lean on your network and let people know you’re looking.

I would recommend just finding anything. Anything that doesn’t instantly trigger due to the type of job.. such as a bartender etc. The job market is still considered “tight” right now which is advantageous for you. It’s just a numbers game. I’ve found in the past that for every 10 jobs I apply for I get 2-3 callbacks. If you send out 10 resumes a day something should materialize. Stay strong and due the leg work and I’m certain your higher power will do the rest. :call_me_hand:

Treat searching for a job just like having a job. Time in/time out -schedule breaks-lunch and take an extra 15 min for reflection and strategy sessions:+1::pray: Best of luck on your search
