Even after 25 years of sobriety, I still find myself

Even after 25 years of sobriety, I still find myself struggling with acceptance. I continue to pray for acceptance every day. More often than not, I can usually find the answers I seek in the words below…..

And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation—some fact of my life —unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God’s world by mistake. Until I could accept my alcoholism, I could not stay sober; unless I accept life completely on life’s terms, I cannot be happy. I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes.

Thanks for posting this. I, too need a daily reminder. Acceptance is our pathway to serenity. It is for me, anyway. Acceptance, Let go and Let God.
Have a Merry Christmas :christmas_tree:

Thanks for sharing Bert. I once knew this and lived by this passage in the big book. However, after years of sobriety I slowly stopped working my program. I lost 27 years of sobriety because I couldn’t accept and/or live life on life’s terms. I have no doubt in my mind that had I been working my AA program, I would’ve pushed thru the difficult times and remained sober. However, that’s not my story. I picked up a drink in 2016 and completely wrecked the beautiful life that sobriety had given me. Today I have 5 months of sobriety. I’m relearning the program on a completely different level. Last night I shared my 4th step with my sponsor (5th step). Acceptance is the answer to all of my problems today.

That’s awesome! It is also great that you understand what happened, and can share about it. If I can ever help in any way, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Yep!! It is the very core of where we begin every single day!! It's such a comfort to me knowing that I don't have to control anything but me!! And that liking something or someone is different then acceptance...just accepting something makes it so much easier to deal with! But I don't have to like it and that's ok!! Ty my friend! Have a blessed day! :hugs:
