Even at a year and a half of sobriety I have entire days where I question if I can even make it to the next morning without a drink. It’s as if my depression hasn’t gotten any better even with the removal of alcohol. Anybody else struggle with this? Feel free to message me directly or reach out on Instagram @grixvxr. Let’s talk about it
Hey Chris, out of curiosity do you go to meetings and participate in a program of recovery?
Nah I was in the beginning but it’s not for me
There are many programs Chris. If 1 didn’t work, try the next one.
The symptoms you’re describing are sometimes called white knuckling or dry drunk. It’s when you remove the drug/drink without working on what you were trying to avoid/numb by drinking. It can be a miserable place to find yourself. It’s also a place where people are at high risk of relapse.
If AA isn't for you, check out Refuge Recovery, Dharma recovery or SMART recovery. There are options and honestly,, community is key. Also, what do you do for exercise? Natural endorphins help a lot
I’m a sponsored skateboarder and I move furniture for a living so all I do is physical activity and exercise. I look great, but I feel horrible
I'm so sorry to hear that. I get it. I've been there. My connection with yoga and meditation saved me. I realize it's not for everyone but there is something out there that you can connect with.
Do you have a good support system?
Unfortunately no I don’t
I am so sorry to hear that as well. Thats the same for me.
Upon exit from 30 day in patient, I plan on 40 more days of PHP and IOP, paired with meetings in AA and Refuge Recovery. Finding support is my main goal.
I know you said AA wasn't your thing, have you heard of Refuge Recovery or SMART recovery? Maybe those are programs that you may able to identify with more and find a support community.
I’ve never heard of them but I’ll definitely look into it! I’m actually about to attend a meeting tonight just to see if I can get SOMETHING out of it
We all need people.and at meetings take what you can us.there no way l could to this alone.aa 34 years.
