Everyday since I’ve been out of treatment, I wonder if I’m doing enough to move forward in my recovery. I’m constantly minimizing my issues and invalidating them and comparing myself to others. I’m in therapy, I have psychiatrist for med management, I’m in IOP 3-4 days a week, I’m going to at least 1-2 meetings per day and sharing every single time, but somehow I still feel like it’s not enough. That sort of “failure thinking” is holding on for dear life and I can’t seem to give myself any credit for the things I am doing. Super frustrating
how do people thank and give themselves love everyday?! Rant over
My opinion is getting a sponsor and work the steps! You’d be amazed at how much your attitude changes when you turn your will over to the care of God!
Yep completely agree. The biggest progress I made was when I went through enough pain (drunk and sober) to finally committ to do the work. The magic and freedom is in the steps. I couldn't believe the impact they had. Ask somebody in your meetings that you respect to show you how to to do them. Good luck
You can do a lot of things to help yourself in recovery. Sounds like you’re doing that. The one thing you can’t do is speed up time. This is a marathon not a sprint. If you’re like me, you’ve spent most of your adult life drinking and learning to deal with problems, stress, and anxiety with using alcohol (or whatever substance it may be for you). It takes a long time to turn that ship around and learn how to deal with life’s events without that crutch. Keep up the hard work. Not making a problem worse by abusing your substance of choice is a win in and of itself. Take the small wins as they come. They will grow exponentially.
