False starts

I know baby steps are the key, at least for me, bit I keep dreaming up big things to do, then becoming overwhelmed by them. I'm glad I can think through this from a sober state of grave now, does anyone identify with that/have a simple solution to obercome it?

If I stick to them I eventually get them done, so I'm thinking don't take on any more, and knock some small ones out, just curious if that makes sense/if you have any ideas.

Thanks!

I set one, no more than two achievable goals. This gives me quick wins and kicks in the endorphins that was once triggered by alcohol.

I heard on a podcast a 5 item rule. If I walk into a room that looks like a hurricane has hit it (messy) i become overwhelmed. If I break the room into 5 things to be done at a time and cross them off it becomes manageable. Fold the laundry, put the laundry away, make the bed, vacuum the floor, dust the TV. I now see things simply.

I would tell my direct reports that New Year resolution lists are made to fail. People put 100 items on the list, lose weight, eat healthier, exercise, not eat out, stay in touch with friends. It's a mountain I will never get to the top of. If I say I will do one, no more than two things differently in the New Year, consistently I will have a great year! It takes (depending on the study) 30 days to build a positive habit.
