How do I help someone that doesn’t want my help? :disappointed:

I don’t know the dynamic of your family member and yourself, but typically I just pull back from trying to help family that refuse to accept help; healing needs to come before motivation comes. Some people, subconsciously, don’t want you to save them from drowning in their problems - they want you to stand there and watch them find the power to save themselves. Help them by inspiring them with your actions, not your words, and ultimately, the choice is on them if they wanna keep falling down or stand up.

In my experience.. You can’t .. That person has to want the help .. But that doesn’t mean you give up on them

Until that person decides they want to help themselves it’s a losing battle. Try to be supportive and positive but also protect yourself.

The best help could be living wonderfully and with extreme happiness and showing them that there is another path.

Just going out golfing with a few sober people over the course of a year or two really helped to show me that it was possible...

Not rubbing their faces in your happiness. Just letting them come to the realization that "[gasp] I could ALSO be like that!"

Hello Deolinda: You can help them through staying sober and being a power of example. When they're ready, you'll be there.

You can’t lead a horse to water…it has to be their decision, not yours. It’s hard to do, I know but all you can do is shine brightly around them and show love/compassion.
