This topic isn’t talked about enough in recovery.
I feel that this is most of our underlying issues in our life. We are constantly in fear of something. We were taught this at a young age. We found ways to cope with this constant fear and then it began to give us anxiety and depression.
Fear of
Not being loved
Not loving enough
Bills/money
Friends
Jobs
Risk
People
Getting sick
Success
Change
Please add to this list! It’s by us talking about our fears we can then help someone else see their own fear. For me I found one out the other day, I have a fear of doing something wrong at work, I have my own business and don’t want to do the work wrong. Well it’s starting to wreak havoc on me and my business
partner.
This is where I can use the 7th step to ask God to remove this fear and instead grant me the wisdom to do the next best right thing at work. I’m learning that the 7th step is for us to really get in touch with our God.
Ahhhh, fear to me is lack of faith. I’m a simple thinker tho.
I had zero faith and all fear. I’m learning more about faith through the Bible and Jesus. Maybe
just maybe my fears will be better understood by me so I can live a joyous life.
I’ve read that book a few times like a novel. Page 1 till the end, page 1 again and again. Didn’t skip around. And sure enough, he came to me. Worked. I’m now pretty invincible. Lol. Don’t believe in free will. Just one will, his. My will always gets me in trouble. Pretty cool way to live. Everything taken care of. Loved ones, needs. Don’t do that live large stuff any longer. Getting by everyday healthy and loved ones taken care of is all that matters to me. It’s a good life. And of course, only way is not picking up.
Exactly my friend! My will run riot is a recipe for destruction. I still battle it today. When things are good I want to tear it down and rebuild. That’s something I’m working on. Enjoy life especially when it’s going well…. Why I like chaos so much baffles me…
Addicts live and love chaos. It’s a rush. Normalcy isn’t natural with us.
My answer to this might sound weird, but it’s honestly true. Here it is: Mostly nothing. What? Now that my fear of most things is gone, I am ok with just being. I used to toil and worry and scramble about, because I was afraid. Afraid that if I didn’t try to control every detail, it all would turn to $hit. Now I’m not afraid because I know Gods got it. If God wants something from me, it will be obvious. If it’s not obvious, I let it work itself out. Now, I leave things alone and they work out way better than if I would have had my grimy little hands in them. It’s a good way to live.
Awesome Shawn! I’m on the same path and repentance has been the key to my fear. I may still have some fear or it creeps up from time to time but the good news of the gospel is God knows what I need when I need it. Faith is fear eliminated.
