Fear is a motherforker

Noticing fear and what’s behind it has been one of my main focal points over this past year.

Our lovely subgroup of degenerates carry around more fear than most, this I believe wholeheartedly. I know it’s my default state and trigger. But overcoming that fear can be exhausting. It is for me right now.

I’ve been struggling financially since I got sober, something I haven’t experienced since my 20s. Just when I think I’m making progress something comes up and the fear comes rushing in.

How are you guys and girls dealing with your fears?

For me, meditation and journaling help but I need more tools.

Fear is a auto response of fight or flight. Both of those lead to feeling out of control, that leads to trying to gain control over SOMETHING… and that usually lead to getting black out drunk so I didn’t need to deal with it. I try to take a pause and think it through just like I wrote it there. Then when I calm down a bit I can rationalize the problem or feeling in front of me. It’s a different form of control now.

I live in constant fear. Cannot shake it. I too get going then something creeps up. Big trigger for me is financial insecurity. I know exactly what you are going through. It’s very scary.
