Hey guys, I’m Jimmy - I’m new to the community. I’ve got 87 days clean, and I’m finally willing to do whatever it takes to stay sober. I went to rehab, agreed to go to a sober house/PHP, go to NA meetings, have a sponsor & have hobbies that I love. I live with some great guys and it’s nice to have people around me that are going through similar struggles, but I still feel this sense of loneliness/emptiness. Like a part of me has died. It’s a shitty feeling. I’m hoping this goes away with time and as I get to know myself more. Any thoughts?
You’re in a transition. Part of you DID die. Alcohol was a huge part of your identity so yes, when that part dies, there is an unfamiliar space left there that feels foreign to you. I am beyond happy that you have support and new hobbies. Having those things will eventually lead you to a new part of you that will fill that hole alcoholism left.
I understand that feeling. I’m only 14 days in but already not looking forward to certain situations but I have to tell myself to live in TODAY. You can do this! You’ll figure out what needs to fill that “hole”. Just let it be there for awhile
Thanks for sharing Jimmy. It’s a whole new thing doing life sober. It felt strange at first for sure. I found that working the steps with my sponsor was the solution. It’s a new way of life and I can’t put in words how grateful I am for it. The promises have come true for me today.
