Finally getting a couple days under my belt and it

Finally getting a couple days under my belt and it feels better than past attempts. I feel like Im actually taking steps to recover from the whole situation, not simply get sober/detox if that makes sense. Doing a lot of therapy, connecting with others, learning mindfullness and healthy coping skills, etc.

Im really loving this app allowing me to connect with others at any time in any place, so thank you to all for being here💙

Great post Grace! That sounds like recovery to me! I am a member of AA and if anyone studies the first 164 pages (a.k.a. The program) they will see that quitting drinking is just the beginning! Successful recovery from this disease involves so much more. We must address every single aspect of our lives and determine what to keep and what to strive for. The steps themselves illustrate this perfectly. If you notice, alcohol is only mentioned once! In the first half of the first step. The rest of the program is about me and cleaning up my past and building a new life guided by principles that will bring actual results! You got this and I’m encouraged for you because you are seeing what is different and why it’s such a great thing!

I agree :100:% with @william401393 .
However if you're not going to AA/NA everything he said won't make sense.
If I may suggest, even if you don't go to AA/NA meetings, get a copy of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and read it. It will be a good reference for whatever recovery program you decide to do.
Going to AA/NA meetings will not get you sober. Diligently working some type of recovery program will. It's just that YOU HAVE TO WORK IT and apply it in your everyday affairs.
You can do this. I have faith in you.

Awesome Michael! Thanks for the clarification and reminder that there certainly are other avenues to achieve lasting happy and purposeful recovery/life!

@michael263340 I agree with and appreciate everything you both said!! That’s definitely a big mistake I’ve made in the past, just focusing on getting sober and ignoring what it is that has caused me to not be sober in the first place. I’m still definitely going to read the AA materials and am going to start on workbooks from AA as well as another recovery program. I think regardless of if AA ends up being the right rock for me there is 1000% value that can be taken from it, so I appreciate the guidance in the right direction too!

Feeling better is great! I feel like this attempt for me feels better and different than any attempt before too. (I’m at 16 days) I’m finally going to therapy, seeking inpatient or outpatient treatment, going to SMARTrecovery meetings and keeping in these communities to keep myself focused and accountable.
Keep it up!
