Finally took action. I am having an intake interview tomorrow to see who on the substance abuse recovery team they can pair me with at a local community health center. Also Day 0 started today… officially.
Hi, Vic. Congratulations on showing up and seeking help. I am curious to learn more about the resource you mentioned. I have been looking into inpatient while the system or lack thereof feels quite wacky at times. I have been told repeatedly that I do not qualify for inpatient. I mean. I have been told all kinds of things? A few of the inpatient counselors responsible for intake assessments have left me with a not so great feeling about the whole system. Contexts: I am on Day 10. Between 2014-2016, close to two years sobriety. Dry July 2021, did it-no alcohol. I am open to help. I have had enough relapses to know full well that becoming complacent is not an option. Have been going to an outpatient facility locally on and off while feeling in my gut that leaving town and staying with relatives and / or friends while partaking in intensive outpatient may be the right “ fit “ for me? … I wish you the best, Vic and appreciate insights from anyone who has experience with facilities, centers. Keep us posted, Vic!
Thank you! So a friend told me about Howard Brown which has centers in Chicago but their work is outpatient like recovery group therapy or one on one specialized therapy. They first have to do an intake if your the right fit. I have yet to know if they’ll accept me. Though I think they can still connect me with other outside sources if needed. I definitely say if you think inpatient would do you good you should be vocal about it with the people who see you. Sadly, I’m barely new to the whole system myself to I’d appreciate if others could share more inpatient resources too. If you do have insurance, sometimes they have a network of specific providers for this type of thing so I’d start looking there too.
Hi again, Vic. Thank you for sharing. Yes. I do not feel at this point that inpatient is the fit for me. I have been told that I do not qualify and I do not require detox, etc. yes. Trying to navigate, understand this system as well. Catch you later and keep going, Vic! - I will, also.
and right, would love to hear of options, processes from anyone who has been through any / all scenarios. Thanks!
